JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE : Family Liaison (with Dari and Pashto Proficiency)

PRIMARY FUNCTION :

This position is responsible for contributing to the successful integration of identified Afghan families and students in Fredericksburg City Public Schools. This position will have focus areas and goals for community outreach, parent engagement, student achievement and involvement, data collection and monitoring student progress. This individual should possess a passion for equity and inclusion for underserved and / or at-risk populations.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Minimum of a high school diploma with preferred post-secondary education credentials.
  • Proficient and fluent in reading, writing and speaking in Pashto, Dari and English.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaborative skills with others
  • Is committed to equitable education practices for all students
  • Goal-oriented and data driven to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Self-driven, committed work ethic, and takes pride in serving others

REPORTS TO : Director of Student Programs

RESPONSIBILITIES : Community Engagement

  • Serves as a liaison between select Afghan students, their families, community partnerships and the school division.
  • Is the central point of contact for select Afghan families and students to answer questions and provide support about FCPS procedures, school protocol, school events and student success.
  • Assists parents / students when they navigate school processes and opportunities to engage.
  • Establishes and maintains a welcoming and informative space for our Afghan families and students with a focus on EL services and student support / success.
  • Serves as a liaison to EL teachers and administration in FCPS when they work together to serve Afghan students and families.
  • Establishes, facilitates and supervises a summer program aimed at serving Afghan families and students with goals related to academic progress, social integration, community engagement and social-emotional development and wellness.
  • Oversight of EL Services and Compliance for Afghan Students

  • Works collaboratively with school staff, administration and the CRC Specialist to review EL student information to help ensure that school division data is accurate and up to date.
  • Facilitates the collection of data / evidence from schools for monitoring and develops reports with this data for Afghan students and their progress.
  • Contributes to the creation and editing of program manuals, forms, documents, training manuals, and power point presentations with a focus on access and services for our Afghan families / students.
  • Other duties, as assigned by the Director of Student Programs.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

    12-month contract / 260 days- this position is dependent on Grant funding that is expected for the 2024-25 school year some time in January 2025.

    EVALUATION :

    Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of instructional personnel.
