Job Description
The State University of New York at Fredonia seeks nominations and applications for a strategic and collaborative person to serve as a Financial aid Advisor in the Office of Financial Aid. Financial Aid Advisors in the Office of Financial Aid, support customer service and the processing that is required for State or Federal Student Aid. The individuals are well versed in the various aspects of financial aid, compliance, Title IV funding and packaging. Individuals in these positions are responsible for supporting and administering student financial aid programs / services and will provide financial counseling to students. The individuals will also work with the Student Information Systems (Ellucian Banner), companion systems, which support the university with a focus on financial aid management, scholarships and verification (Document imaging OnBase, CampusLogic / StudentForms, FredScholar, NSLDS, COD and other locally developed and commercial software tools etc.). The successful candidate must also possess a general understanding of financial aid and be able to think independently and make decisions.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES
Administer, support and provide financial counseling on aspects of financial aid.
Be well versed in the various aspects of Financial Aid, leveraging ongoing improvement of practices through best utilization of Banner and other applications used for awarding, communicating and tracking Financial Aid.
Collaborate with other Financial Aid staff to facilitate cross-functional training and testing as necessary.
Develop expertise, provide support and understand all financial aid resources and application sources (e.g., HESC, NYSFAAA, NASFAA, COD, NSLDS, NSC, other pertinent Federal Student Aid sites).
Develop and continue to enhance understanding of IRS tax documents, federal regulations and compliance obligations.
Understand the collection and analysis related to financial aid documents submitted by students and parents to assist them in making changes and submitting the correct documents.
Coordinate the electronic OnBase EFC Discrepancy process with the assistance of the Assistant Director.
With oversight and collaboration with Dir. and Asst Dir. of Financial Aid, will implement institutional and private scholarships through OnBase and Scholarship Universe. Identify prospective students for retention scholarships, review eligibility for renewable scholarships and collaborate with various stakeholders. Create new fund codes as necessary, and repackage student awards with the addition of Departmental Scholarships. Award stackable recruitment scholarships as instructed by the Admissions Office.
Certify private funding programs tied to enrollment / financial aid requests including, VSAC grants, Gates Millennium, DCTAG, NYS ETV and SAY Yes.
With oversight and collaboration with Dir. and Asst Dir. of Financial Aid, will implement the Federal College Work Study program. This includes work study referrals, department placement and monitor payroll in Banner. Provide a recommended yearly and summer work study number and position allocation for Cabinet review. Develop innovative methods to work with campus constituents for efficiency. Assist with supervision of the Financial Aid Office work study students while continuing to build a robust work study program.
With oversight and collaboration with Dir. and Asst Dir. of Financial Aid, will implement the EOP Economic Eligibility Review process for the financial qualification of EOP students. Oversee EOP Direct & Deferred voucher funds via the SICAS Voucher Interface process.
Coordinate the transfer monitor process through NSLDS.
Oversee statistical gathering and completion of survey requests : US News & World Report, Peterson's Guide, College Board Data Set and NYSED. Coordinate and manage the FADS submission process.
Facilitate communication with Assistant Directors / Director of Financial Aid and other Financial Aid Staff to ensure participation in ongoing needs and operational assessment.
Monitor State and Federal Financial Aid professional organizations and list-serves, and other related list-serves for any issues that may impact the Financial Aid Office, awarding of scholarships, compliance and business practices.
Assist at recruitment and other campus / external events that occur on limited nights and weekends such as Open House, High School FAFSA filing, SUNY Financial Aid Days and Orientation Events.
Responsible for delivering informative presentations to an audience in a variety of settings
Requirements :
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree. The degree must be from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
Experience working with Microsoft Office products
Experience working on projects or tasks in which you meticulously reviewed work for accuracy and / or identified and corrected errors.
Experience must include proficiency in use and management of one or more integrated business applications systems that support processes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters' degree in related discipline;
Professional experience administering Title IV and state aid;
Experience working in a college, university, or University System environment with a responsible role in providing counseling or operational support for financial aid management; familiarity with verification, student loans, TAP, Excelsior, Pell, Federal Work Study and other forms of financial aid;
Experience managing need-based programs and packaging;
Experience using student information systems including the use of query tool (Argos) and equation engines.
