Job Title: Executive Director

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Board of Directors:

  • Work with the Board to identify and guide strategic initiatives for program success and expansion. ∙ Serve as the staff representative at board meetings to provide board members with operations reports and other updates.
  • Collaborate with the Board and staff to develop and execute a set of annual goals aligned with the strategic plan, and ensure success metrics are tracked and consistently reported.
  • Assist with recruiting, evaluating, and onboarding new board members and provide input on how best to use the board meetings and members to support the organization.
  • Participate in committee meetings, and ensure the board directives and policies are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the Board is informed and educated about Free Rein activities, incidents, and measures of success, and that requests for Board assistance and support are communicated effectively.

Personnel:

  • Develop and maintain a strong organizational culture that ensures employees and volunteers feel valued, and attracts and retains competent and caring staff.
  • Identify, recruit, and onboard a talented team of employees who can lead critical operational functions.
  • Provide career coaching, growth, and personal development support for direct and indirect report employees.
  • Oversee activities of the operations staff and initiate disciplinary action if/when necessary.
  • Complete and document annual employee evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the Board to ensure compliance with state and federal employment regulations. Define and implement personnel policies and procedures.

Community Relations

  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of annual reports, press releases, media events, and promotional materials.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of grant requests and ensure compliance requirements for awarded funds.
  • Participate in Free Rein fundraisers and other public relations events.

General Administration:

  • Work with the program staff, Treasurer, and appropriate committee(s) to prepare and monitor the annual budget, spending and revenue targets, as well as recommend fee and other revenue increases and other budgetary changes (i.e. spending categories and limits).
  • Monitor company operations and ensure employees and business practices comply with contracts and operating agreements, state/federal/industry regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Evaluate existing programs and develop new programs in conjunction with the Program Director(s) and Board.
  • Oversee the maintenance, security, insurance, and appropriate use of the facility, and lead further facility development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORK HOURS AND BENEFITS:

  • Evenings and/or weekends are often required to support program initiatives.
  • Ability to work some hours remotely.
  • Paid time off, and flexible schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and pass a background check.
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience (7 years) in nonprofit management, business management, public administration, or related field.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple varied tasks.
  • Proficiency with technology, including (but not limited to): software programs, individual and mass email communications, social media platforms, and electronic databases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and motivate.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience working with special needs individuals.
  • Knowledge and experience in an adaptive recreation or therapeutic riding program. If new to the industry, must be willing to learn and become engaged in all aspects of adaptive riding and PATH International.
