Job Title: Part-Time Armed Security Officer
Department: Campus Safety and Security
Reports To: Director, Campus Safety and Security
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary: Patrols university or university premises to maintain order, enforces regulations, and ensures observance of applicable laws by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Lock doors and gates of entrances and exits to secure buildings.
Patrol lobbies, corridors, and public rooms, confer with management, interview guests and employees, and interview persons to detect infringements and investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalisms, and accidents.
Patrol public areas to detect fires, unsafe conditions, and missing or inoperative safety equipment.
Warn or eject troublemakers, and cautions careless persons.
Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. Obtain assistance for accident victims and writes accident reports.
Assist management and enforcement officers in emergency situations. Respond to medical emergencies by administering basic first aid or by obtaining assistance from paramedics.
Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours.
Escort or drive motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations or to provide personal protection.
Liaison with local law enforcement if and when the need arises.
Use weapons or physical force to maintain security when legally authorized.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Law enforcement background is preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills
Basic mathematical skills are required.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Tennessee Driver License
Once hired, possess the ability to obtain and maintain an active Armed Security Guard License issued through the State of Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.
Once hired, possess the ability to obtain and maintain basic CPR certification.
Other Skills and Abilities
Possess a proficiency in the use of firearms and participate in firearms training.
