CLASSIFICATION: W2 employee or 1099 independent contractor (if certain qualifications are met)

 

WORK SCHEDULE:  Driver is expected to be over the road at least 14 days at a time.  Driver will drive up to 11 hours per day with a 10 hour of duty period. Driver expected to take a 30 minute break after 8 hours of consecutive driving.  Driver shall take a 34 hour reset after 7 days of consecutive driving.

 

ANTICIPATED TRAVEL: 100% of the time.

 

COMPENSATION: Driver is expected to earn approx. $3,500.00 on a bi-weekly basis for driving an estimated 3,000 loaded miles per week and being paid at a rate of $.55 cent per pre-determined loaded mile and $.30 cent per pre-determined / pre-approved unloaded mile.  For W2 employees, we offer benefits such as health / dental / vision insurance premium reimbursements, retirement plans if available, and accrued paid time off for W2 employees

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: An over-the-road (OTR) tractor trailer driver, also known as a long-haul truck driver, is responsible for transporting goods across long distances, often spanning multiple states or regions. This role involves operating large trucks, such as tractor trailers, and ensuring the timely and safe delivery of cargo.  Overall, a career as an OTR tractor trailer driver can be rewarding for those who enjoy travel, independence, and the challenges of the open road. However, it requires dedication, adaptability, and a commitment to safety and compliance.

SCHEDULED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Driving: Safely operate a tractor trailer over long distances, adhering to traffic laws and regulations.
  2. Loading and Unloading: Assist with loading and unloading cargo, ensuring proper handling and securing of freight.
  3. Route Planning: Plan and follow efficient routes to minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
  4. Logbook Maintenance: Keep accurate records of hours of service (HOS), mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance activities.
  5. Vehicle Inspections: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in good working condition.
  6. Communication: Maintain communication with dispatchers, other drivers, and customers to coordinate deliveries and report any issues.
  7. Compliance: Adhere to federal and state regulations, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rules.

 

UNSCHEDULED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Consult with the supervisor regularly to implement improvements within your scope on a continuous basis.

  2. Participate in external and internal audits/surveys (FMSCA / DOT) as directed by the supervisor.

  3. Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement plans by completing periodic audits or other activities to ensure regulatory compliance and/or improve service delivery.

  4. Assist the supervisor with any work-related tasks as requested.

  5. Collaborate with and serve as program POC for external treatment providers and outside agencies as needed.

  6. Responsible for following regulations of FMSCA / DOT and company policies/ procedures related to service delivery.

  7. Support the maintenance of a safe environment by participating in training and drills as requested.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly walk, stand or stoop; occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds; and regularly drive a commercial motor vehicle for long periods of time.
 

WORKING CONDITIONS: All work is performed over the road.

Qualifications


COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  1. Commercial Driver's License (CDL): A CDL is required, often with endorsements for specific types of cargo or equipment.
  2. Physical Stamina: Ability to sit for extended periods and handle the physical demands of loading and unloading cargo.
  3. Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate logbooks and compliance with safety regulations.
  4. Navigation Skills: Proficiency with GPS and other navigation tools.
  5. Problem-Solving: Ability to handle unexpected situations, such as traffic delays or mechanical issues.

 

LEVEL OF EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience: Prior experience driving long distances or operating large vehicles is highly beneficial.

  2. Must have a valid CDL for at least 2 years.

  3. May not have any driving record violations in the past 5 years.
