Freedom House Ministries are excited to offer a position to someone who loves to make people smile through the preparation and presentation of a delicious, nutritious meal.
We are a small non-profit organization that is seeking a full-time Creative Culinary Assistant. Our mission is to provide food and shelter for families who are experiencing homelessness. We currently provide 3 meals a day and snacks to approximately 60 people per day. Meals are created out of supplies received from ordering food in bulk, donations and volunteer groups who cook and serve meals.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Plan nutritious weekly meals that are kid-friendly, culturally relevant and adaptable to food sensitivities.
Organize and clean the kitchen, pantry and coolers, including the dining area.
ServSafe certified or able to become certified and uphold the guidelines of the certification.
Responsible for coordinating the execution of serving meals.
Create a monthly rotation of meals that can be sustained and replicated.
Ability to adapt and create healthy recipes with food donations.
Maintain an accurate inventory of food orders, donations, and supplies.
Communicate clearly with staff and volunteers with regard to meal service.
Manage the Meal Service Calendar.
Create educational opportunities for residents to learn and engage in cooking techniques, meals planning, and budgeting.
Coordinate ordering with the supervisor monthly.
QUALIFICATIONS :
A degree / certification in culinary arts or equivalent program.
A minimum of 5 years experience in culinary services is preferred.
Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Google Drive) and an ability to learn new programs.
Ability to maintain clear personal and professional boundaries.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Ability to walk for your entire shift (3-12 hours per day) with intermittent occasional standing, bending, squatting, or climbing.
Ability to remain alert and on duty throughout shifts.
Ability to lift over 50 pounds when necessary.
