Job Summary
As a Level Two Field Service Technician/DME Delivery Driver (FST/DD) you will be responsible for delivering and repairing home medical equipment such as power and manual wheelchairs, scooters, ramps, and other home medical equipment to customers. The FST/DD will operate within a 150-mile radius of the San Francisco Bay Area, working alongside the Freedom Mobility team to help organize routes for daily deliveries and assist with scheduling, staging, and loading the company vans.
As an FST/DD, you will visit patients in their homes to evaluate their equipment needs, deliver and pick up equipment, repair equipment in their homes and our Rodeo shop, and maintain our Power Wheelchair Loaner Fleet.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care | Customer Service Duties:
- Perform evaluations (take measurements) of the patient and their home environment for proper equipment selection and fitting.
- Educate the patient and/or caregiver on how to use the equipment properly and safely.
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments to power wheelchairs and other home medical equipment in the patient's home and our Rodeo shop; keep logs on work and issues.
- Interact with patients, their families, caregivers, social workers, facility staff, and office staff.
- Maintains continuous communication with the customer service team to relay a change in orders or issues with orders, position in routes, stock availability, and to confirm delivery and pick up of equipment. Communicate with the office via GPS, email, and handheld devices.
- Upon completion of delivery, complete, submit, and file confidential PDF forms and paperwork with the office.
- Maintain the company's fleet of power wheelchairs in a ready state (repair, maintain, and prepare for dispatch). Stocks, organizes, and stages equipment to be delivered.
- Receives and reviews a daily route and required list and prepares the truck/van for delivery by pulling stock (i.e., wheelchairs, scooters, ramps, etc.), staging equipment for delivery based on the order of the route, and loading requirements on the truck/van.
- Conduct a daily assessment and inspection of the truck/van, equipment, and supplies and confirm basic safety operations (e.g., lights, brakes, mileage, vehicle appearance, etc.)
- Completes and maintains a driver log, vehicle check out, and vehicle inspection reports.
- Stock delivery trucks to ensure they are in "ready" condition for the next day.
- Tag and Stage equipment in the proper warehouse location.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and proper dress code.
- Follow the assigned route to deliver, load, unload, & set up home medical equipment in the patient's home (power wheelchairs) within a 150-mile radius of the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Assist ATPs with completing deliveries of Group 3 Power Wheelchairs when assigned.
- Assist ATPs with completing deliveries of Rehab or any other equipment when assigned.
- Assist warehouse staff in equipment assembly when assigned.

- Perform heavy lifting, bending, and assisting with forklift tasks as assigned in maintaining and complying with safety regulations of forklift operations such as cleaning and clearing areas for operation, marking, and securing off areas from unauthorized personnel or the public from entry.
- Manage battery charging, testing, and equipment assembly.
- Process equipment and parts orders using computer applications.
- Maintain inventory and assist in maintaining facility cleanliness.
- Assist with warehouse upkeep, disinfection, organization, and inventory to maintain a safe operating facility in compliance with state, federal, and local laws, and ordinances as well as industry regulations and requirements.
- Any other duties assigned pertaining to keeping a safe worksite.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to drive a box truck/van.
- Must comply with all DOT regulations.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and drive for prolonged periods - up to & exceeding 8 hours per day. Some long routes may require some early mornings and/or late evenings.
- Must be able to climb in and out of truck/van.
- On a regular basis, the ability to lift, carry, and move durable medical equipment that weighs up to 100 lbs. for a moderate period (25% – 50% of the day) unassisted.
- Frequent bending, twisting, grasping, squeezing, and occasional kneeling, climbing stairs, and reaching above the shoulder is required to transport and set up medical equipment.
- Must pass background checks as required by Medicare and Medi-Cal.
- Must pass periodic drug screening.
- Regular and continuous hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are required to set up durable medical equipment.
- The ability and knowledge to utilize basic tools, e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, etc., to set up and repair durable medical equipment.
- Must have three or more years of experience "or equivalent" in deliveries, small mechanical repairs, and customer service; or 2 years of power wheelchair, manual wheelchair, and scooter experience.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Prefer AA/BA Degree, "or equivalent" education, training, life experience, and desire.
- Familiarity with Process Improvement is a huge plus.
- Complete 10 Hours of CEU (Continuing Education Unit) training within the past 12 months, with the option of completing within the first 90 days of employment. CEU credits should have a strong focus on Wheelchair Repairs and Troubleshooting.
