Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Senior Buyer is responsible for effectively communicating and coordinating all functions of inventory procurement. They negotiate with vendors to source merchandise with the best possible price/value relationship in the marketplace; establish the beginning of season strategic plans for sales, markdowns, inventory, and growth opportunities (both brick & mortar and eCommerce). The Senior Buyers primarily focus their efforts on large strategic growth categories.
The Senior Buyer is responsible for coordinating sales, margin, visual merchandising strategy, and turnover plans with executive leadership. The Senior Buyer also builds, creates & manages merchandise assortments, by category, through existing and new brands that align with market and consumer trends. Assortment creation includes selecting and purchasing merchandise by considering type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix, and promotions. Managing assortments includes continual evaluation of pricing, demand, forecasting, and product flow.
The Senior Buyer will leverage vendor relationships to gain knowledge and data as it pertains to product category and in product selection and pricing negotiations.
The Senior Buyer will analyze economic, financial, market, and industry data to assess current business strategies or identify future business opportunities. They will also assume the customer's perspective to ensure merchandising strategies will meet customer needs (current and future).
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and select various supplier options according to quality, price, etc.
- Identify target audience preferences and forecast consumer future trends.
- Select and purchase new products and review existing products.
- Negotiate the agreement terms with the suppliers to achieve the best deals for our company.
- Ensure timely product delivery along with compliance to the purchase contracts.
- Monitor stock levels and make plans for purchasing within the decided budget.
- Coordinate with other buyers and the Leadership Team.
- Attend fairs, events, exhibitions to stay updated with the latest market trends of retail stores.
Requirements
- BA/BSc in Business Administration or related field.
- High School Diploma candidates with entry-level position experience may also be considered.
- Proven 3 years of experience working as a Retail Buyer preferably in the firearms or outdoor recreation field.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of purchasing best practices.
- Effective sales and negotiating skills.
- Exceptional understanding of market research, forecasting techniques, and data analysis.
- Proficient in MS Office and other basic computing tasks.
