Hours: Sat/Sun 7PM-7AM and Mon/Fri 3PM-11:30PM
Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) plays a key role in supporting clients throughout their substance abuse recovery journey. The BHT assists with daily activities, monitors client safety, facilitates group activities, provides transportation and engages with emotional support in a compassionate, client-centered environment. Working under the supervision of operational staff, the BHT ensures adherence to treatment protocols and helps create a structured, therapeutic environment conducive to healing and recovery.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine checks on clients to ensure safety, well-being, and adherence to facility rules and policies.
- Client Monitoring and Support
- Observe and document client behaviors, reporting any concerns or incidents to staff promptly.
- Offer emotional support and encouragement to clients, promoting a positive and respectful environment.
- Provide transportation for clients as needed but not limited to admissions, discharge, appointments, legal system etc.
- Assistance with Daily Living Activities
- Assist clients with daily activities as needed, including meal support, personal hygiene, and organizing personal spaces.
- Encourage clients to participate in scheduled activities, treatment sessions, and group meetings.
- Help clients adhere to their treatment schedules, providing reminders and guidance.
- Take vital signs and report unusual recordings to the nursing staff.
- Provide medication observation for specific levels of care under the direction of the nursing team.
- Group Facilitation and Activities
- Facilitate group activities under the direction of clinical staff, supporting social interaction, coping skill-building, and recreation.
- Support therapeutic groups, such as life skills workshops, relapse prevention, and mindfulness activities.
- Monitor group dynamics to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive setting for all clients.
- Crisis Intervention and De-escalation
- Respond to and assist in de-escalating crises or emergencies, using approved techniques to maintain safety.
- Implement de-escalation strategies to prevent or mitigate aggressive or disruptive behaviors.
- Engage in against medical advice conversations/approaches to help clients make a better choice in remaining in treatment
- Report crises or high-risk incidents to clinical supervisors and follow established protocols for incident documentation.
- Supportive to the company’s vision and approach of longer lengths of stay and positive outcomes for lasting recovery
- Documentation and Reporting
- Accurately document client interactions, observations, and any significant changes in behavior in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Report any client concerns, incidents, or behavioral changes to the BHT Supervisor or clinical team.
- Ensure timely, thorough, and confidential handling of all documentation in compliance with HIPAA and facility guidelines.
- Collaboration with Clinical Team
- Work closely with therapists, counselors, nurses, and other clinical staff to support each client’s individualized treatment plan.
- Participate in team meetings to provide updates on client progress, behaviors, and needs.
- Communicate openly with team members to maintain a unified approach to care.
- Health and Safety Maintenance
- Perform routine safety checks of the facility and report any maintenance or safety issues.
- Follow infection control and cleanliness protocols, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for clients and staff.
- Educate clients on facility guidelines, including safety and emergency procedures, as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in behavioral health or substance abuse treatment is preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health or substance abuse treatment setting is preferred.
- Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) - prefered but not required
- Basic knowledge of substance abuse and mental health conditions, including de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
- CPR and First Aid certification required, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and confidentiality standards in healthcare.
