Job Summary/Objective:
The Pipe Welder will be responsible for welding, cutting, and brazing metal components using various welding techniques, including flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment. The role requires proficiency in a variety of welding processes and the ability to work with both carbon and stainless steel pipes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate welds (minimum 1-2 years of experience required).
- Use measuring tools (e.g., tape measure, level, squares) to verify dimensions and ensure precision.
- Weld using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and FCAW processes, with at least 2-5 years of experience in these techniques.
- Work with schedule 10 and schedule 40 carbon and stainless steel piping, ranging from 3" to 24" in diameter.
- Utilize positioners and other tools to support welding on piping.
- Inspect and assess welds for quality, strength, and safety compliance.
- Weld in various positions, including 1G, 5G, and 6G.
- Follow all safety protocols and enforce safety standards on-site.
- Operate welding machinery and monitor its temperature and usage to ensure optimal performance.
- Safely operate an overhead crane for material handling.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of welding machinery, tools, and techniques, including their design, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding designs.
- Basic understanding of mathematics as it relates to welding assignments, including geometry and measurements.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Education and Experience:
- Certification in welding from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, and flux-core welding processes.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in welding, particularly with pipe and structural components.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to weld components in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead).
- Sufficient manual dexterity and stability to perform precision work.
- Good visual acuity to inspect welds and materials up close.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Ability to traverse job sites, including climbing, balancing, stooping, and carrying materials.
