What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Operations Manager position at Freeform?
Role Overview:
Plans and manages all on-site installations to ensure Operational Excellence. The Field Operations Manager directly manages all field crews and accepts accountability for project installation execution, project installation costs, schedule adherence, on-time project completion, project profitability and customer satisfaction. The Field Operation Manager reports to the Warehouse, Delivery & Installation (WD&I) Manager.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Qualifications/Attributes
- 10 years of field experience in furniture industry
- Excellent leadership skills and abilities. Provides strong leadership and has/earns the respect of field crews
- Is comfortable and professional with field crew, customers and Freeform personnel
- Strong professional acumen with the ability to interact with customers and Freeform team in a positive, engaging and professional manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and ethical approach to the business
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass all screening required for employment and access to customer sites
Technical Skills:
- Understands contract furniture installation processes and construction processes
- Can analyze construction and furniture drawings and plan installations accordingly
- Is mechanically adept and has excellent installation technical abilities
- Proficient with tools and equipment required for all installation types
- Has a high-level of product knowledge across all lines of furniture carried by Freeform; can learn new product lines through analysis and extrapolation
Resource Management:
- Responsible for assigning field crews to all projects
- Assesses project needs and assigns resources accordingly
- Has oversight of field crews and ensures they are meeting or exceeding installation timeline expectations
- Makes corrective action decisions for field crews if they are falling behind installation timeline expectations, or other issues that may affect the success of a project
- Communicates needs for additional resources with WD&I Manager and Project Managers for approval
- Proactively manages payroll time and time off for field crews and communicates overtime (OT) needs with the WD&I Manager for approval of OT
Field Team Training
- Assists in developing and implementing operational procedures, work practices, standards of performance, etc.; understands operational economics and cost accounting; takes leading role in the development of installation personnel
- Responsible for the training of all new field crew hires – Delegates field crew training to Lead Field Technicians where possible
- Identifies weaknesses within existing field crew, trains to proficiency
- Ensures all Lead Field Technicians train field crew both in the field and in other scheduled non-field trainings
Administrative Skills:
- Maintains detailed and complete administrative records of installation project work in alignment of company processes
- Assists WD&I Manager in office administration—work order processing, payroll time, punch list resolution, receiving documentation, etc.
Installation Operational Excellence Strives for near-perfect Operational Excellence. Responsible for:
Preparation with internal and external project team
- Serves as direct field contact for large and strategic projects
- Performs Pre-Install Site Walks / Meetings on large and strategic large and strategic projects
- Available for site walk support or field dimensioning for project staff on large and strategic projects
- Understands job site installation requirements and communicates with the end user and/or General Contractor
- Communicates with Project Managers and warehouse team regarding project preparation
- Collaborates with team on pre-order planning/sequencing/scheduling
- Identifies potential installation ‘risks’ and mitigates risks with the project team
Field crew project preparation (pre-installation)
- Ensures appropriate resources (vehicles, tools, skills, knowledge, etc…)
- Ensures timeline expectations have been communicated
- Ensures all work-order information is correct and up to date
Field Crew Management
- Leads daily stand ups with all field crews
- Fields daily installation questions from Lead Field Technicians and project team and resolves issues
- Meets team on site for Day 1 install on all large and strategic projects
- Communicates project status to customer as required
- Communicates with Lead Field Technician regarding project status
- Possesses field problem solving/technical skills and serves as expert advisor for Lead Field Technicians
- Performs site walks as required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
