Job Overview
Our Financial Management Department are recruiting. Due to an internal promotion, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible professional to join our team as a Directorate Accountant.
The Directorate Accountant will manage a team of staff to ensure the accurate and timely provision of financial information, support and guidance to the Trust’s Clinical Boards.
The financial management team are responsible for the monthly closedown, variance analysis, reporting and forecasting, as well as providing business support to managers, including high quality financial information and analysis to meet their financial objectives throughout the year.
The role is based at Regent Point in Gosforth, with parking available or easy access to the Regent Centre metro and bus interchange We offer agile and flexible working to support work-life balance and provide a supportive and inclusive team environment with opportunities to thrive and develop.

The team produce monthly management accounts to enable accurate monitoring and forecasting of the Trust's financial position, enabling Directorates to make well informed financial decisions.

- To ensure delivery of a high quality financial management service.
- To work closely with senior Trust Corporate and/or Directorate Management, providing timely and accurate information and advice to facilitate the effective monitoring and management of the Trust’s financial position and to support the decision making process.
- To play a significant role in the formulation of the Trust’s annual planning process.
- To ensure that financial controls are maintained within Corporate Governance guidelines.

- Good level of education in a numerate subject.
- In depth specialist knowledge in financial and accounting procedures, financial aspects of NHS legislation and finance policies and in particular budgetary control techniques
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience in the finance department of a complex organisation
- Demonstrable experience in management accounting, including ability to provide detailed guidance and advice to finance and non-finance managers within own area
- Professional accountancy qualification or equivalent knowledge, experience and expertise
- Evidence of participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Previous NHS finance experience at a senior level.
- ECDL or equivalent experience.
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to a range of audiences using a range of different communication methods
- Ability to analyse, interpret and make judgments involving complex facts and situations
- Staff management experience and the ability to plan and organise a range of complex activities and programmes
