Job Overview
We are looking for a dynamic highly motivated theatre Sister/ODP/Charge Nurse to join the forward thinking team in the Ear, Nose and Throat theatres within the Central operating department at the Freeman hospital. The Central operating department consists of 19 theatres of which 4 are Ear, Nose and Throat operating theatres.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with extensive experience working in a theatre environment, who is dedicated to improving patient care through effective leadership and management within the Ear, Nose and Throat theatres. We are looking for a flexible individual with excellent communication skills and a willingness to work with the senior team for the benefit of ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to develop and maintain good department management and organisational skills as well as promote the delivery of high standards of patient care and operational oversight. You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Scrub experience is essential and Quality Improvement experience is an advantage.
You must be able to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and public whilst also possessing the ability to ensure robust operational demands are met.
You will act as a role model and provide an environment conducive to the support of qualified and unqualified staff whilst enhancing the patient’s journey and experience.
Support and opportunities will be given in developing your managerial and leadership skills that will be required for this challenging yet very rewarding role.

- To support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP, acting as a deputy when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP is absent.
- In areas within the organisation Nurses / ODPs may be banded at 6 by virtue clinical reasons, for example, critical care.
- Provide effective support and leadership to both staff, patients and carers within the Theatre or Department.
- Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students.
- Ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times.
- Effective member of the multi-disciplinary team
- May be required to participate in an On-call rota as required.
