Job Overview
The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) in Newcastle is one of the country’s leading cancer treatment facilities located in 2 purpose-built centres one at the Freeman Hospital and a brand-new facility at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, providing radiotherapy services to the population of the Northeast and Cumbria.
From 01-04-21 the Oncology services in North Cumbria joined with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) to become one service, delivering oncology out-patient appointments, radiotherapy and chemotherapy as a single NUTH provision.
The radiotherapy department in Newcastle benefits from state-of-the-art equipment which includes 2 Novalis Truebeam STX linacs with stereotactic capability, 5 Varian TrueBeam linacs, and 2 Tomotherapy units.
The Pre-treatment Imaging section comprises 2 Siemens CT scanners with ProSoma virtual simulation and Raystation planning system, and a dedicated MRI scanner. The provision of this MRI scanner in the department has enabled us to be at the forefront of the development of the use of MRI within radiotherapy planning and MRI only planning pathways.
NCCC is committed to delivering a high-quality radiotherapy service, maintaining the highest specification equipment and contributing to radiotherapy research and development.
Applications are invited from qualified or soon to be qualified radiographers who have an interest in working in a large, aspirational department. The post-holder will work within the department ensuring the highest quality of technical practice, patient care and ensure workload targets are achieved. The post-holder will be required to work in imaging, scheduling and treatment dependent on departmental needs. The post holder will be required to have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To work on a rotational basis as a member of the radiographic team on a treatment machine delivering radiotherapy, or in the imaging section acquiring images and planning radiotherapy.
- To implement and deliver radiotherapy procedures including localisation, imaging, dose calculation and treatment delivery.
- To undertake radiotherapy practice independently and professionally in accordance with all protocols and procedures, and with care and accuracy.
- Contribute to holistic patient care as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist advice and information regarding radiotherapy to patients and their carers.
- To participate in student and staff training.

- Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc therapy radiography
- State Registration
- Evidence of Intention to continue with further study
Essential criteria
- Recent graduation or recent employment as a therapy radiographe
- Recent employment in a large RT Centre.
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of modern RT equipment, systems and techniques appropriate to their area of work
- Knowledge of Quality Systems within Radiotherapy, Health & Safety and other relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of future trends in RT
