The Chief Financial Officer is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial health and operational efficiency of the company through accounting best practices and processes. They collaborate with leadership to manage budgets, optimize resources, and provide actionable insights to support growth and sustainability. Additionally, the Chief Financial Officer oversees company-wide safety programs to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting, auditing, and financial reporting functions within the company.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee all financial plans and processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, present insights to the President.
  • Monitor cash flow, accounts receivable, and accounts payable to maintain financial stability.
  • Conduct cost analysis for each division to identify profitability and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee payroll, tax compliance, and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Manage all aspects of the month-end close process, including reviewing journal entries, preparing accruals and reserve support, ensuring the general ledger is complete, materially accurate, and closed timely and in accordance with internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Review all work orders in Aspire on a monthly basis, reviewing the job report for accuracy, cost, revenue, etc.
  • Complete all EOM tasks in Aspire to ensure contracts are invoiced accurately and all tax reporting is completed.
  • Manage cash flow, capital expenditures, and financing activities, including any depreciation and budgeting for company equipment.
  •  Assist with GC prequalification’s and requirements of contracts.
  • Ensure company is meeting all compliance with tax regulations, local and federal legal requirements, and corporate governance standards.
  • Lead risk management initiatives to safeguard company assets and ensure financial stability.
  • Analyze and optimize financial performance of Installation and Maintenance operations.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of company safety programs; monitor incident reporting and partner with leaders to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Provide financial oversight for safety-related investments, including equipment and training.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the President, providing financial insights and recommendations for strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Directors to align budgets and financial goals with operational needs.
  • Provide recommendations for future growth including addition of team members based on the budget, revenue projections, and needs of the business.
  • Administration of all Employee Benefits, terminations and severance agreements, broker contracts, 401K partnership, etc.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-departmental collaboration ensuring entire team is utilizing software and other programs for efficiency.
  • Develop and implement training programs to upskill team members on financial tools, project management technology, and safety protocols.
  • Embrace the needs of a growing organization by taking on other responsibilities as needed to support the day-to-day operations of the company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7 years of experience in financial management, preferably in landscaping, construction, or other related industries with 3 years of leadership. 
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and experience managing safety programs is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency and previous experience in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks and Aspire) and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of business operations within the landscaping industry.

 

Success Metrics

  • Maintain consistent and positive cash flow through proper AR and AP management.
  • Develop a realistic budget and forecast that demonstrates strong financial planning and adaptability that account for variable project costs and scheduling challenges.
  • Develop and oversee a safety and risk management program for the company through training and education along with safety compliance in the field.

Physical Requirements/Work Requirements & Environment

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Standard day shift; on site location
  • Limited travel; 0-10%
