Job Summary
This position offers a $2500.00 commitment award for a 2 year commitment to external candidates.
The Physical Therapy Assistant, under the direction of a Physical Therapist, implements Physical Therapy treatment programs to facilitate patients' maximum functional level of independence. Physical Therapy services include, but are not limited to: muscle strengthening and balance exercises, gait safety awareness and endurance training, application of physical agents, neuromuscular reeducation, postural control and sensorimotor training, pain management and mobilizations.
Job Responsibilities
- Implements therapy treatment plans as designated by supervising Physical Therapist.
- Completes relevant documentation and record keeping of delivered services and non-patient documentation with consultation with other disciplines and services.
- Carries out adapted programs and activities outlined by Physical Therapist to facilitate maximum functional outcome of patient enabling them to safely return to a home/work environment.
- Consults with other internal and external team members, disciplines and services, to progress patient's rehabilitation.
- Educates and instructs patients, family members, caregivers, staff or team members on skills and techniques required for patients to attain maximum functional outcomes.
- Educates in the use and application of assistive devices, special equipment, splints and orthotics.
- Attends and participates in patient care, staff conferences and other related meetings or home/ workplace visits.
- Prepares, cleans and ensures proper working order of patient care equipment. Reports repair needs or maintenance to appropriate department per policy.
- Supervises support personnel, Rehabilitation technicians and transporters, in accordance with state and professional standards.
- Displays competency for age-specific group: newborn to geriatrics.
- Adheres to FHN policies, procedures and PRIDE Standards.
- Displays competency for the Physical Therapist Assistant role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards.
- Supervises students and volunteers.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements
Education: Associate’s Degree of Applied Science in Physical Therapy
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Current BLS
- Current licensure or board eligible as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in Illinois
