REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level:
- Master’s Degree (Administration and Special Education and/or Curriculum and Instruction preferred)
Certification/Licensure:

Experience Desired:
- Minimum of 3 years successful Special Education teaching experience

Other Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to work with students, parents, administration and staff.
- Knowledge of PreK-12 curriculum and SPED programming
- Strong knowledge of Special Education law / regulations (IDEA, Rule 51 & 52, Rule 11, Sec 504/ADA) and understanding of their application
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate effective skills in leadership, human relations, organization, problem solving and conflict resolution
- Strong knowledge of child development
- Thorough knowledge of disability categories and related impact on students' educational progress and need for specialized instruction and/or curriculum
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements of their specific job description.
Basic:
- To assist and support the Director of Special Education and provide leadership of an array of services and programs for students with special needs.
- Principal to the Pathfinder Program
- To promote district and community integration and inclusion of students with disabilities.
- To carry out the responsibilities outlined in the job description and also Board Policy.
- Must function in a highly professional manner ascribing to the AASA Code of Ethics for Administrators.
Frequent:
- Assist in coordination and facilitation of the delivery of Student Services
- Provide leadership for the Special Education Programs.
- Assist in the development of short and long term plans for Special Education programs in accordance with School Board policy, Nebraska Rule 51 & 52 and other applicable Federal and State laws.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures which reflect the district philosophy.
- Assist with the development of Special Education budget and financial planning.
- Coordinate and facilitate SAT and MTSS processes as assigned and assist in the development of evaluation and monitoring of the interventions.
- Coordinate and facilitate inclusive educational activities throughout the district including assisting teachers with the provision of interventions and accommodations for students with special needs.
- Assist in the coordination, delivery and evaluation of staff development activities.
- Assist in facilitation and monitoring of the district's utilization of the Student Record System / computerized IEP - IFSP program.
- Coordinate and facilitate the district's continuous improvement activities including the ILCD process.
- Assist in grant writing - application, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes.
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, administrators and parents to plan appropriate student placements and assess program/service options for special needs children and children with disabilities.
- Work directly with building and district level staff and administration in implementing district policies, procedures and programs.
- Assist in the completion of Special Services reports as required by State and Federal regulations.
- Coordinate and conduct meetings as required.
- Assist with the organization, supervision, and evaluation of the extended school year and summer school programs for students with disabilities.
- Assist in the hiring, supervision and evaluation of special education staff as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
