Fremont School District 79 is seeking a Healthy Minds Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Illinois Professional Educator License;
- Self Contained General Education Endorsement or Health Endorsement
POSITION SUMMARY:
This role focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle by teaching nutrition, safety, hygiene, fitness, and the human body systems, while exploring factors influencing growth and development. It emphasizes the development of self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, and interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships and life success. Additionally, the position encourages responsible decision-making in personal, school, and community settings, integrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) practices into all aspects of instruction.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches students that health is related to their levels of physical, mental/emotional and social well-being.
- Teaches knowledge about body systems and how they relate to healthy living.
- Instructs students in lessons geared to Illinois Social/Emotional Learning Standards to enhance their growth as good citizenships able to make good decisions.
- Completes Erin’s Law instruction to ensure compliance with state law. Communicates with families detailing Erin’s Law Curriculum and process for opting out if they so choose.
- Provides instruction related to nutrition and fitness.
- Offers individualized and small group instruction to meet needs of all students, where possible.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to promote effective learning.
- Works with other professional staff to help students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of Principal.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
- Strives to implement by instruction and by action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
