High School International Baccalaureate (IB) Physics Teacher

FASNY is seeking a qualified and passionate educator to join our high school faculty as an International Baccalaureate Physics teacher. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physics and another science, with a focus on the IB curriculum. This position requires the ability to engage and inspire students, fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter and promoting critical thinking skills. This person will collaborate with all members of the school community to meet the needs of students and to promote and live by the school’s mission and philosophy.

Responsibilities:

• Curriculum Development: Design, plan, and implement an engaging and rigorous IB Physics and Chemistry curriculum, aligning with the IB program standards and objectives.

• Classroom Instruction: Deliver high-quality instruction that caters to diverse learning styles, ensuring students are actively involved in the learning process. Utilize modern teaching methodologies and technologies to enhance student understanding.

• Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and administer assessments that effectively measure student progress and understanding. Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents regularly. Supervise IB Extended Essays in Biology as needed.

• Lab Management: Oversee and conduct laboratory activities, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for hands-on experiments. Foster a culture of scientific inquiry and exploration.

• Differentiated Instruction: Tailor instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, providing additional support or challenges as necessary. Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

• Professional Development: Stay current with educational trends, particularly those related to IB programs, physics, and chemistry education. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, department members, and other stakeholders to promote a cohesive and integrated learning experience. Participate in interdisciplinary projects and activities.

• Parental Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with parents regarding student progress, upcoming assignments, and any concerns. Participate in parent-teacher conferences as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field. Master's degree in Education or a relevant subject is preferred.

• Experience in teaching high school Physics and another science (Chemistry, Biology, ESS), preferably in an IB or similar international program.

• Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and assessment methods.

• Able to teach other STEM subjects highly preferred

• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Enthusiasm for fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

• Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
