Job Overview

Family Support Educators wanted to provide comprehensive community education and training preventive services in support of the Army Family Advocacy Program (FAP), Army Community Service (ACS) and U.S. Army Garrison, Hawaii. The Army FAP is a specialized program, which focuses on preventing the onset and recurrence of child and spouse/intimate partner maltreatment, and their associated conditions. The program components include comprehensive community education and training.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology or related field from an accredited institution
• Experience: Five years of professional experience in domestic violence prevention and child abuse neglect or maltreatment, education or intervention services
• Three years’ supervisory experience
• Two years’ experience in military lifestyle (may have been gained through work experience in the military support services, through prior active duty status, or as a current or former military family member)
• Ability to complete the Family Advocacy Staff Training (FAST) via the FAST Distance Learning course and attend the FAST resident course (5-days in San Antonio, TX)
• Demonstrated ability to create and present effective, professional PowerPoint training slides on a variety of related FAP and ACS training topics
• Experience in computer operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows, and computer applications, such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft TEAMS, Excel, Publisher, Power Point and Access, to perform basic word processing, telecommunications, database management, online data entry, spreadsheets, e-mail and Internet access
• Experience providing customer service to a diverse population. This may include face-to-face telephonic, virtual trainings and presentations, public speaking or written communication
  
  

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

Monitor and support a team of FAP Educators to provide the following services:

• Provide education and trainings that are designed to focus on prevention and enrichment for units, individuals, couples and children
• Design, implement and maintain a variety of trainings (i.e. workshops, classes and briefings) each month. Prevention and education topics cover a variety of topic areas including stress solutions, anger and conflict solutions, couple’s relationships enhancement, communication, nutrition and Child Birthing classes, Period of Purple Crying, Nurturing/Parenting Skills classes, Deployment, redeployment and reintegration, life skills, safe online and social media use, and holistic self-care strategies among others
• Provide information that tracks training success of attendees, rosters and course completion date for review. Provide update on trends, need for improvement and recommended actions for improvement of training
• Provide sixteen (16) hours of playgroup for parents of infants and toddlers (0-4) years old) per month at multiple locations within the USARHAW footprint. Ensure playgroup activities and programs are structured and offered in a safe environment for children, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, and safety procedures are implemented at all times
• Provide training requirements on Spouse/Intimate Partner Violence and Child Abuse/Neglect annually to a variety of groups in the community. Types of training, initial, refresher and annual on how to Identify, Report, and Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect, Child Sexual Abuse, and Intimate Partner Violence for personnel within Child Youth Services and Family Child Care, Medical Treatment Facility and Chaplaincy
• Maintain and update a current and accurate electronic database that is readily retrievable, by name and unit, by Government personnel at any point in time to validate the training received
• Create, implement, and update a Marketing Plan to include brochures, banners, flyers, posters, and pamphlets for marketing of FAP classes, programs, and events
• Prepare and submit at least 24 articles/marketing materials annually for each program to include New Parent Support Program and Victim Advocacy Program
• Schedule and conduct a minimum of four (4) Outreach tables each month at various locations
• Plan, coordinate and execute the ACS and FAP Open Houses or similar outreach events four (4) times a year
• Provide campaign support throughout October Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and April Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM), Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, Human Trafficking Month to include assisting in set up and break down for, conducting and/or participating in activities/events
• Participate in the Community Readiness Expo (CRE), Replacements, Community Information Exchange (CIE) and/or other Newcomer’s events
• Administer a participant evaluation and effectiveness evaluations following each training session
• Enter, update and submit a projected 90-day monthly class/event calendar, for all ACS FAP Activities
• Generate and submit a variety of administrative reports and a monthly program management review that summarizes and highlights the services provided,
• Enter/update the appropriate approved program database, currently the Army Family Web Portal (AFWP), all activities to include classes, briefings, events, campaigns, meetings, etc
• Participate in weekly FAP staff meetings, monthly Army Community Service (ACS) meetings, the quarterly Family Advocacy Committee (FAC)
• Utilize the New York University database, and/or other similar evidence based resources, to research evidence based classes, interventions and programs Credentialing and government certified classes
• Ensure that the Prevention Plan incorporates all prevention activities and that they are based on Prevention data analysis, FAP needs assessment, Deployment Cycles and other variables as indicated
• FAP Prevention Plan shall comply with the FAP Accreditation Standards and shall include prevention activities for the year, outcome measures, listing of classes/training schedule, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM), Teen Dating Violence Month, Human Trafficking Month activities and any other activities/events/campaigns, etc. associated with FAP program as identified by the FAPM
• Complete a community education needs assessment IAW FAP Accreditation Standards by the end of each contract performance year
• Provide personnel crisis support services IAW applicable directives, instructions and regulations; including applicable ACS Accreditation Quality Standards. The Emergency/Family Assistance Center may be activated by the Garrison Commander or their designated representative in the event of any crisis or disaster
