The EHS Manager is responsible for driving a strong safety culture and influencing a behavior-based safety management system within Commissary Group facilities. A mindset of continuous improvement and being results-driven is critical to the success of this role. The EHS Manager will oversee and lead the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive safety program across a section of fresh food manufacturing facilities located in one of the Commissary Group’s regions in the United States. Reporting directly to the Division President, this role will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, promote a culture of safety, and minimize workplace incidents. The EHS Manager will also be responsible for building and managing a high-performing safety team within the regional sites to support the division’s goals. The EHS Manager will work to ensure that safety assessments are thorough, consistent, and accurate.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development and Oversight
- Design, implement, and continuously improve the division’s safety programs, policies, and procedures to align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Standardize safety protocols across all locations, ensuring consistency in hazard prevention and incident response practices.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and gap analyses to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Leadership and Team Building
- Recruit, train, and mentor a team of safety professionals to provide site-specific support.
- Establish performance metrics and objectives for the site safety teams to ensure accountability and results.
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA, FDA, USDA, and other relevant regulations to ensure compliance across all facilities.
- Lead investigations of workplace incidents, including near-misses, injuries, and illnesses, and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Compile, analyze, and report safety performance data, presenting findings to the Division President and executive leadership team.
Training and Employee Engagement
- Develop and implement safety training programs tailored to different roles and locations within the division.
- Foster a culture of safety by engaging employees at all levels, encouraging proactive hazard identification, and promoting safe behaviors.
- Coordinate safety committee meetings and initiatives to involve employees in continuous improvement efforts.
Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for all regional locations, ensuring readiness for incidents such as natural disasters, chemical spills, and other emergencies.
- Conduct drills and training to prepare employees and leaders for potential crises.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience in implementing a variety of occupational health and safety programs.
- Ability to conduct investigations and evaluations and evaluating cost and risk factors.
- Ability to interpret and apply a variety of laws, rules and regulations.
- Excellent presentation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high volume environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel 5%-10%
