ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a results-driven Controller to join our dynamic team who will not only lead our accounting and financial reporting operations but also play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing financial systems and processes. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and optimization of financial operations & reporting, tax, payroll, and costing.
Your ability to dive into challenges and collaborate across departments will be crucial to your success as you contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE).
- Manage external audit and review processes, ensuring timely and efficient completion.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Oversee the payroll function, ensuring compliance with labor laws and timely CRA remittances.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations by managing the filing of GST, payroll, and corporate tax returns, while partnering with external advisors to optimize tax strategies.
- Manage supplier costing, including cost analysis and the implementation of optimized costing systems and procedures.
- Refine and streamline supplier invoicing and overall accounts payable process.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure operational integrity, and comply with relevant accounting standards.
- Create and implement policies to improve cash management, including credit and collections, payment terms negotiation, and cash flow optimization.
- Manage the integration, maintenance, and improvement of financial software and systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency in transactions and reporting.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as required to support the finance team and organizational goals.
REQUIREMENTS
- CPA designation.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive relevant experience in accounting, audit and/or tax, with several years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE or IFRS) and tax regulations.
- Proven experience overseeing payroll processing and compliance.
- Costing, inventory experience is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Experience with systems implementation or optimization.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
