Position Description
EXTRA-HELP JOB OPPORTUNITY
Seasonal Parks Worker is an extra-help classification used to maintain the grounds of Fresno County Parks. Temporary (extra-help) employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, are not entitled to benefits, do not obtain permanent status and serve at the will of the department head.
Job duties include cleaning and maintaining park grounds, picnic facilities and restrooms.
Workdays and hours vary between Sunday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Park locations include Avocado Lake, Courthouse Park, Choinumni Park, Kearney Park, Lost Lake Recreation Area, Skaggs Bridge Park, Laton-Kingston Park, Winton Park and UMC Campus.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.
Eligible candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Samples of Duties

- Cleans and maintains the grounds of County Parks.
- Cleans and maintains picnic facilities.
- Cleans and maintains restrooms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic gardening tools;
- Safe driving practices.
Skills/Abilities to:
- Drive within park areas as well as to and from parks throughout Fresno County;
- Communicate effectively with staff and members of the public;
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff;
- Learn and apply safe job practices;
- Perform heavy manual labor, effectively utilize a full range of motion to walk, stand/sit for prolonged periods of time, push, pull and climb;
- Work in an outdoor environment and sometimes in adverse climatic conditions (heat, wind, rain, pollen, and dust);
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
Age: Must be 18 years or older.
License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent.
