SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Family Engagement/Volunteer Assistant.
SUMMARY
Develop, coordinate and implement meaningful activities for parents to ensure effective and consistent participation of parents at all levels and ensures that volunteers meet minimum requirements per Head Start Program Performance Standards, philosophy and mission. In addition has relative independence to initiate ideas and methods that will ensure a high level of volunteers for the program. Maintains close communication with Family/Community Service Manager who may set priorities and assignments.
Assist in achieving the agency’s vision, “For Those We Serve,” by empowering individuals who thrive as healthy, self-sufficient and contributing members of our community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs supervisory functions such as completing forms, reviewing employment applications, interviewing, issuing corrective action, completing performance evaluations, and generating separation forms etc.
Coordinates all County-Wide Local Parent Meeting (LPM) activities.
Responsible for coordinating and implementing a volunteer program.
Coordinates with Center/Teacher Directors’ volunteer services from community resources including, but not limited to: parents, volunteer bureaus, colleges, high school, and senior citizens group.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with community services agencies.
Coordinates community-wide recruitment effort to recruit program volunteers.
Develops materials and coordinates training for pre-service and in-service training for all volunteers.
Develops and oversees an on-going assessment system of volunteer program.
Maintains family engagement/volunteer reports by utilizing the Child Plus (CP) Dashboard and periodically sending updated reports to all levels of management.
Plans, coordinates and provides training and technical assistance to County-Wide Policy Council (CWPC) and LPM with the Family/Community Services staff.
Obtains community resources as identified by the Strengths, Needs and Interest Parent Survey (SNIPS).
Assists with interpreting during CWPC, LPM or parent related activities.
Serves as a liaison between staff, parents and communities.
Transports children/parents as needed.
Regularly monitors and evaluates Family Engagement/Volunteer activities; Executive Board and CWPC meetings/trainings and governance activities.
Coordinates with staff the Executive Board and CWPC packet.
Prepares and conducts workshops for parents and staff.
Interprets and applies Federal guidelines and policies.
Models professionalism for staff, parents, children, clients, and community members. Promotes a collaborative environment within the service areas, program, and agency.
Maintains and reviews records of Family Engagement/Volunteer Budget, LPM /agenda/rosters/minutes, reimbursement forms, officer information sheets, and purchase orders for the LPM or trainings.
Prepares and develops a variety of reports.
Adheres to the American With Disabilities Act (ADA-2010) which prohibits discriminatory actions toward children and/or adult with disabilities. In particular, children with disabilities are enrolled in the classroom as mandated by Federal Law.
Maintains strict compliance with universal health precautions including home visits, group socializations, and when administering first aid.
Coordinates with all service areas in the program and with agencies that can provide resources that would facilitate parent involvement.
Collaborates with all service area staff to ensure program governance goals are met.
Maintains confidentiality of records and information on Head Start 0 to 5 staff, children and families.
Travels to all Head Start 0 to 5 centers/sites to communicate, monitor, and visit each site periodically using their own vehicle.
Actively encourages and embraces diversity.
Travels for agency business using personal vehicle.
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
Works evenings and weekends as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work or a related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of related work experience in administering of Social Services or related field required.
Four (4) years of direct staff supervision required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.
Effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work well with preschool children/families and diverse population, and with contracted service providers and representatives of collaborating agencies.
Bilingual in English and Spanish or other secondary language preferred based on the needs of the clients and the program.
Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation and adequate auto insurance as required by State law. Proof of insurance will be required.
Pass required reference checks and fingerprint clearance under Title 22 regulations: Department of Justice/FBI, Criminal Record Statement Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) and background investigation as needed prior to employment.
Physical examination, TB screening clearance and signed federal criminal record declaration are required within 7 days after employment.
Obtain a valid AB 1207 Mandated Reporter Certification prior to first day of employment.
Pass and maintain Basic Pest Management in a Child Care Settings annual certification as required by the California Healthy Schools Act (HSA).
Attend and pass the Family Development Credentialing Program within two (2) years of employment..
Immunized against influenza (flu), pertussis (whooping cough) and measles. The influenza vaccination must be obtained annually during flu season, August 1 through December 1. A person is exempt from the immunization requirements for the following circumstances:
1. The person submits a written statement from a licensed physician declaring that because of the person’s physical condition or medical circumstances, the immunization is not safe.
2. The person submits a written statement from a licensed physician providing that the person has evidence of current immunity to pertussis (whooping cough) and/or measles.
3. The person submits in writing declaration that he or she has declined the influenza (flu) vaccination. This exemption only applies to the influenza (flu) vaccine.
Former Head Start 0 to 5 parents preferred.
