This position reports directly to the Director of Quality and works closely with the Infection Preventionist in the planning, development, direction, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital-wide infection prevention program. The role ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and supports the collection, reporting, and presentation of statistical information related to infection control and other hospital quality measures as assigned.
Salary Range: $44.00 - $64.00 (Depending on Experience)
Hours: 8 hours, non-exempt
Required Skills:
Minimum Education and Experience
- BSN or BS in related health care or management field preferred.
- Completion of an accredited registered nursing program.
- Experience in Infection Prevention, Healthcare Education, Epidemiology, Infection Diseases, Employee or Public Health preferred.
- CBIC certification preferred.
Required License and Certification
- Current California Registered Nursing License
- Basic Life Support certificate preferred.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) upon hire OR within three years of employment.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles, epidemiological methods, and quality improvement practices.
Familiar with all related healthcare concepts, practices, policies and procedures. - Knowledgeable of Joint Commission, HIPAA, AAHC and other healthcare governing bodies, both state and federal.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards for infection control in healthcare settings.

Essential Functions
- Support the Infection Preventionist in implementing and maintaining an effective hospital-wide infection prevention program, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory standards and best practices.
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of infection control data, and present statistical findings related to infection prevention and other hospital quality measures.
- Review hospital policies to identify and address infection control discrepancies, ensuring alignment with hospital goals and values.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to resolve infection control issues and improve services.
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of infection control data, and present statistical findings related to infection prevention and other hospital quality measures.
- Monitor infections, conduct investigations, and support epidemiological studies.
- Ensure compliance with mandated reporting (HAI, Surgical Site Infections, vaccinations) to NHSN, public health departments, CMS, and others.
- Maintain knowledge of federal and state regulations, recommending practice changes for safety.
- Maintain an active surveillance program utilizing epidemiological principles, infection prevention, and control strategies to ensure high-quality, cost-effective healthcare delivery and prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
- Distribute findings from surveillance activities, policy and procedure updates, and regulatory guidelines to relevant individuals and committees.
- Make evidence-based recommendations to improve infection prevention practices and ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Conduct infection prevention rounds, surveillance activities, and hand hygiene audits, distributing findings as needed.
- Assist with infection-related employee health issues and exposure follow-up. Assists with employee health fit testing and seasonal influenza vaccinations for staff, contracted staff, vendors and the medical staff. Maintains records.
- Completes occurrence report follow up and actions related to actual or suspected infections, communicable diseases and blood borne pathogen injuries.
- Participate in infection control for construction activities, regulatory surveys, and educational programs.
- Provide reports for the Infection Prevention Committee and assist in hospital-wide committees.
- Organize workload and perform other duties as assigned.
