DRILL PRESS OPERATOR (FABRIACATION SHOP)

Location: 7736 E. Springfield Ave., Selma, CA 93662
Hours: 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM (7:00 AM to 3:30 PM regular shift when overtime not needed)
Days: Monday through Friday (Saturdays as needed)
Position: Hourly

Job Summary
Responsibilities encompass setting up the drill press, aligning materials, and ensuring precision in drilling. Setting up and operation of drilling machines, such as single-or multiple-spindle drill presses to drill, ream, countersink, spot face, or tap holes in metal or non-metal workpieces according to specifications while supporting the direct labor operations of the Fabrication Department. Tasks also include routine machine maintenance and quality checks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Sets up and operates fabrication drilling machines, such as single-or multiple-spindle drill presses to drill materials.
- Lifts the workpiece manually or with hoist, to positions and secures it on machine table, in drilling jig, or holding fixture.
- Operates the movement of machine controls to feed tools into workpieces and engages automatic feed.
- Observes machine operation, and verifies conformance of drilled workpiece to specifications, using fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers,
- Changes worn cutting tools, using wrenches.
- Use measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions of the workpiece
- Use controls to adjust cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cut.
- Assist in setting up the machine.
- Sharpen cutting tools, using bench grinder.
- Perform minor assembly, such as fastening parts with nuts, bolts, and screws, using power tools or hand tools.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure the machine is maintained and lubricated properly.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and safekeeping of equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and other instructions to determine the drilling requirements
- Adjust and maintain the drill press machinery to ensure proper functioning
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to company safety procedures and regulations.
- Clean and maintain the work area and equipment, including tools.
- Communicate with supervisors and other team members regarding any issues or concerns related to the drilling process
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience as a drill press operator.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Must have a good understanding of various types of drill bits and how to select the right one for the job.
- Must know how to set up and operate the machines correctly and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
- Must have good hand to eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with others to work as a team.
- Must have the ability to perform accurate measurements and basic arithmetic.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of drilling tools and their uses, including drill bits, taps, and reamers
- Must be able to use a measuring tape, caliper and other measuring tools.
- Ability to work independently, detail-oriented with strong communication skills.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work seasonal shift hours

This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, lifting, twisting, and bending.

Working Conditions
Employees will work in a noisy environment and may be frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The role involves working near moving mechanical parts and using standard heavy equipment and tools. Department assignments are heavy industrial, repetitive, and may be performed outdoors under varying weather conditions.
The employee must wear a respirator and hard hat (when applicable), approved safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes at all times.
