- The Outside Sales Trainee position is part of our Campus to Career Talent Program, which is designed for recent graduates (within the past two years), or those with planned upcoming graduation from an accredited university.
- This role is aimed to take identified talent and develop them into future leaders in the steel industry. The development of the OS Sales Trainee will be focused on the commercial side of the business with the primary role being sales.
- To be successful, the trainee will need to become fluent not only in sales, but also purchasing, risk management, marketing, operations, trading, HR & finance, as it relates to the steel industry.
- As a Graduate Trainee, you will participate in various training programs, rotations, and projects designed to expose you to different aspects of the organization and develop your professional capabilities. This role involves learning from experienced professionals, acquiring technical and soft skills, and contributing to the achievement of organizational goals.
Trainee Responsibilities:
- Participate in orientation programs and onboarding activities to familiarize yourself with the organization's culture, policies, and procedures.
- Complete training modules, workshops, and courses designed to develop technical skills, industry knowledge, and professional competencies.
- Rotate through different departments or functions within the organization to gain exposure to various roles and responsibilities.
- Shadow experienced professionals and mentors to learn about their job duties, workflows, and best practices.
- Assist with project tasks, assignments, and initiatives under the guidance and supervision of senior team members.
- Conduct research, analysis, and documentation to support ongoing projects and initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve problems, address challenges, and implement solutions.
- Attend meetings, seminars, and networking events to expand your knowledge and build relationships within the organization.
- Seek feedback and guidance from supervisors, mentors, and peers to continuously improve your performance and skills.
Principal Areas of Focus – Outside Sales Trainee Program:
50% - Sales – total account management responsibilities for existing accounts, including sales, inventory management, pricing, credit, service, and customer relations/entertainment. Ability to sell to higher-level decision makers and generate creative value propositions
35% - New account development – ability/desire to prospect, develop, and establish new accounts who will become regular, repeat customers
5% - Teamwork – Ability to coordinate and engage with the organization, operations, risk management, finance teams to provide customer solutions and deliver tangible results
5% - Planning and Strategy – responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting relevant market intelligence within the territory, including market price levels, demand levels, competitor activity, and market trends
5% - Administrative – price quotations, order acceptance/entry, inventory planning and management, customer claims, forecasting, market planning, credit management, compliance with ethical/legal standards/requirements along with any other assigned duties
