Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Friendly City Psychology, PLLC
Harrisonburg, VA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/14/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/14/2025

Friendly City Psychology is searching for a full-time licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our thriving group practice in Harrisonburg, VA. The primary responsibility of this role is the provision of general psychiatric care, evaluation, and medication management to an outpatient population. Additional professional opportunities are available based on provider interest, practice & community need, and professional experience. This is the first position of its type at our practice. Our new colleague will have the opportunity to actively inform and develop what psychiatric services look like here.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicants are Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (MSN or DNP) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field, must hold an active and unrestricted license in Virginia as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP), certified as a PMHNP by ANCC, possess a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Virginia by date of hire, and must be independently licensed for autonomous practice.

Desired Qualifications

We want a colleague who appreciates a good sense of humor, wants to be a part of a healthy community, loves sharing good food, and has a passion for providing high quality mental health services. We want someone who enjoys consulting and collaborating with colleagues and works well independently. Generalists are welcome but if you have a particular passion or specialty for certain populations or presenting concerns, we would love to support that.

Compensation

We pay people what they are worth to do what they love. We provide a minimum salary with a commission earned for anything billed above minimum billing amounts. We have designed our contract to be one of the most competitive in the private practice market. Compensation depends on a few variables (e.g., reimbursement rates, services provided, sessions billed, length of session, etc.). Based on current reimbursement insurance rates, the estimated compensation range for this position is $141,000. It is possible to make more than that and still maintain a healthy work-life balance. We have a very low annual minimum billing requirement and encourage everyone to take at least 4-5 weeks of vacation a year. The autonomy and flexibility this position provides is almost impossible to find in any other system.

You get to create your own caseload, pick the populations and clinical issues you want to work with, and design your own schedule.

This is a W2 employee position. The practice pays for all the business, administrative, and operating expenses (e.g., yearly licensure renewal fees, malpractice insurance, approved professional development and continuing education experiences, furnished offices, software subscriptions, EHR platform, equipment, and marketing and advertising materials). We have an amazing office manager who provides administrative, credentialing, and billing support. We also offer health insurance, dental, and vision benefits.

About Us

We are proud of the community we have created and want to make sure private practice is healthy and sustainable. We’ve tried to accentuate the aspects that make private practice appealing and minimize what makes it challenging. You don’t need private practice experience to make a meaningful contribution to our staff. Everyone on our team brings a unique perspective and expertise. However, if you have a particular expertise related to private practice, we’d love to learn from you. We have created a community that provides as much support, care, and resources for each other as we do for our clients. We also make time to schedule long lunches outside of the office throughout the week to support our mental health and our local restaurants! Our main goal is to create an environment where you enjoy what you do, enjoy the people you work with, and look forward to coming to work every day.
