Friends Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 876 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

Upper School Math Teacher

The Friends Central Upper School (grades 9-12) seeks a dedicated, enthusiastic Math teacher for a full-time position beginning on July 1, 2025. The teacher is responsible for teaching four courses and being involved in co-curricular work The teacher will also act as an advisor to a small group of students.

Qualified candidates will have experience teaching a range of math courses, and a demonstrated commitment to working with Upper School students and will report to the Upper School Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of Math at Regular and Advanced levels
  • Assess students progress and performance in a timely fashion
  • Communicate with teachers, advisors, and parents regarding student needs and progress
  • Act as an advisor to a small group of students
  • Contribute to the School in an extra/co-curricular capacity as appropriate (coaching, advising clubs, May Term offerings,etc.)
  • Be an engaged member of the Friends Central faculty and the wider school community

Qualifications

In addition to having a professional and educational background in teaching math, we are looking for candidates who also possess the following:

  • Degree in Math or related field
  • At least 3-5 years of teaching experience
  • Ability to relate well to high school students
  • A desire to contribute to the continuing development of curriculum content and methodology; staying current with best practices in teaching and the teaching of math, including incorporating technology and differentiating instruction
  • An ability to determine learning goals and to design coherent instruction and assessment according to the needs of our students.
  • A commitment to supporting the Schools commitment to diversity and inclusivity as outlined in our Diversity Statement
  • An understanding and commitment to the Schools Quaker values and mission

Physical Demands

Physical demands include dexterity for office machines and supply operation including but not limited to writing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, reaching and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
