What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Independent Contractor position at FRIENDS of Broomfield?
General Description
Independent Contractors for FRIENDS of Broomfield act as Family Caregivers or Host Home Providers for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are part of FRIENDS Residential program. They support and advocate for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) within the community and the home environment; fostering and supporting a two-way relationship of respect and dignity.
Independent Contractors promote person centered concepts, inclusion of individuals into the community and being involved in activities that increase independence. They actively supports adults with IDD to choose and achieve the highest quality of life.
Residential Contractors are not employees of FRIENDS of Broomfield. FRIENDS of Broomfield will not withhold federal, state or local income tax or pay FICA tax or unemployment tax, workers’ compensation insurance or other insurance on the contractor’s behalf. Independent Contractors are not eligible for employment benefits of any kind.
Residential Contractors are required to:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Pass a criminal background check (required by the State of Colorado)
- Have a valid email address, Internet, phone and computer
- Safely lift 50 pounds
- Complete daily documentation
- Facilitate monthly Safety and Fire Drills
- Actively engage individuals with IDD in community activities
Example of Residential Contractor Services
- Offer appropriate level of assistance and support to individuals during various activities of daily living
- Assist with meal preparation, household cleaning, laundry
- Assist with medical care, including appointments
- Administer medications as prescribed
- Assist with budgeting and finances
- Provide transportation during scheduled service hours in accordance with completing the individual’s IP goals
- Participate in annual IP meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed
- Help individuals obtain and maintain daily living skills and work toward their fullest potential to foster independence
- Include individual in family life and activities
- Accompany and support individual in community activities including shopping, recreation and leisure activities, etc.
