What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trainer position at Friends of Cyrus?
Friends of Cyrus (FOC) is a human service organization, providing in-home, residential and day habilitation services to adults with developmental disabilities. We are looking for an enthusiastic Trainer to educate FOC employees on a wide variety of topics to better help them support people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Trainers must have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to communicate clearly and effectively to FOC employees. Trainers need to have strong public speaking skills and be comfortable presenting to large groups. The ideal candidate will have experience working with the IDD population and implementing a training curriculum that aligns with the requirements mandated by New Jersey’s Division of Developmental Disabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a training curriculum that meets the mandated training requirements set forth by New Jersey’s Division of Developmental Disabilities.
- Conduct one on one and group training in the group home setting
- Create and maintain a positive and supportive environment while training
- Provide feedback to program managers and administrators pertaining to attendees
- Complete all training items with enough time spent on each section
- Identify training improvements
- Update training materials as required
- Apply knowledge of various learning styles while presenting
- Use multimedia to present to an audience, including slides, videos, and computer modules
- Be able to refocus the audience on a training topic; be able to refocus yourself as needed
- Be able to regulate emotions, both of the audience and your own, as needed
Requirements:
- BA in Social Work, Education, or related field
- 2-year I/DD or related social service experience at least one-year training
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong commitment and passion for the organization’s mission
- Excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with individuals and groups; able to read verbal and non-verbal communication and cues
- Innate ability in making abstract concepts concrete; able to use real-life examples to expand and clarify a concept
- Knowledge of various distance learning platforms including College of Direct Supports (CDS)
- Able to work on Saturdays or evenings, as needed
- Willing to travel between Middlesex and Burlington County
- Strong public speaking abilities
- Great use of time management
- Experience organizing an agenda and leading a meeting
- Proven excellence at following directions, asking questions for clarification, and being accountable to a supervisor
- Fantastic at engaging a group and encouraging people to be involved
- Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft applications
