What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Technician position at Friends of the Manchester Animal Shelter?
Purpose:The role of the animal care technician is to ensure proper care of our canine and feline friends until they find their forever homes. Works closely with the Lead Technicians and volunteers to ensure all tasks get completed thoroughly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean kennels and/or cat enclosures daily
- Feed dogs and/or cats according to feeding chart
- Give medications as directed by the medical team
- Help assess and report behavior of resident dogs
- Keep kennel area clean and organized
- Clean outside dog yard areas
- Walk dogs when weather permits
- Train volunteers to help with cleaning
- Put away kennel and other donations as needed.
- Complete duties asked from management that are not in the above job description
Critical Competencies:
- Strong dog handling skills
- Strong work ethic; willing to be hands on and jump in and assist when needed
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Organized; able to manage reliable process for keeping information about shelter animals up to date and
- Ensure shelter supplies sufficiently stocked
- Reliable transportation even in the winter weather
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively with fellow staff, volunteers and the public and knows how to adapt interactions to the different constituents
- Must be competent in handling and restraining aggressive animals
- Ability to lift up to 50lb.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
