What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Student Intern position at Friends of Youth?
The Clinical Student Intern of Mental Health Services provides a range of prevention and intervention services to children, youth, and families which encourage individual growth and promote constructive relationships. They assist with concerns including but not limited to mental health, trauma/exposure to violence, peer relationships, educational goals, youth employment, and family education/support.
FLSA STATUS: Unpaid internship
REPORTS TO: Clinical Supervisor (Internship)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Clinical Services Tasks
- Provide evidence-based and culturally responsive therapeutic interventions and services to youth and their families.
- Provide individual and family sessions and demonstrate proficiency in short term clinical work with clients.
- Learn/review crisis intervention best practices and provide crisis support to assigned clients, as needed.
- Assist in the development of and co-lead therapeutic groups with a licensed clinical team member.
- Maintain direct service hours at 50% of total weekly internship/practicum hours.
Administrative Tasks
- Attend weekly individual meetings with supervisor to review cases.
- Participate in staff case consultations and department meetings.
- Ensure learning goals and education requirements are discussed with supervisor at the beginning of each academic quarter/semester.
- Maintain case records in an accurate and timely manner per all WAC, COA, Medicaid and King County requirements.
- Maintain effective communication with supervisor about schedule changes, vacations, or leave and assist with identifying client coverage as needed.
- Submit evaluation forms as required by graduate program and review with supervisor each academic quarter/semester.
- Become familiar with both internal and community resources for children, youth, and families.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A. Education and Experience
- Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in counseling or related field
- Previous college coursework in counseling
- Undergraduate degree in psychology or related field preferred
- Previous work experience with children, youth, and/or young adults preferred.
B. Additional Requirements
- Must satisfactorily pass criminal history check.
- Must satisfactorily pass tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver's license (or be able to obtain one by date of employment).
- Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business, must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
- Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
- Must successfully complete the following health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required. There are no exemptions.
