What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Director position at Friends Outside?
Regional Directors are responsible for agency programs in thirteen (13) Regions of the state of California. Each Regional Director is responsible for one (1) or more sites. They ensure compliance and overall success of the program by monitoring, supervising, motivating, encouraging, advising, training, and coordinating employees in their region. The Regional Directors report to the Program Administrator.
Position will not start until May 2025
Open to remote work for the right Southern, CA (Los Angeles area) applicant otherwise position worksite will be our Administration Office located in Stockton, CA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four-year college degree in the social sciences or related behavioral science field,
OR
- Four cumulative years of administrative and/or management responsibility in service delivery for incarcerated adults or the criminal justice/prison population or social service-related fields.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related field.
- Experience recruiting, hiring, training, monitoring and evaluating five or more employees, utilizing appropriate knowledge and techniques sufficient to motivate and retain employees.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current employment law and practice.
DUTIES:
- Supervision of staff
- Responsible for oversight of program staff in assigned region (Southern, CA).
- Ensure full staffing at all institutions in the assigned region (Southern, CA).
- Recruit, train, monitor, and evaluate all staff in the assigned region (Southern, CA), under the direction of the Program Administrator/Executive Director.
- Provide input on hiring and retention of other staff.
- Provide direction and support to supervised staff with regards to their responsibility to clients, subordinate staff and volunteers.
- Reporting and Record Keeping
- Apprise the Program Administrator of and make recommendations relative to isolated program incidents, problems, and/or successes with program.
- Write required reports on services delivered and/or provide evaluation updates on operations in assigned region.
- Review and respond to reports submitted by subordinate staff.
- Accumulate and review all statistics relevant to the region.
- Maintain an accurate and complete filing system, secure and confidential.
- Health and safety
- Travel quarterly to the locations in assigned region to review and monitor health and safety standards at each site, taking immediate and appropriate action where necessary.
- Contract/Grant Compliance
- Maintain contract/grant compliance by becoming familiar with the contracts/grants and Operations Manual and evaluating on a regular basis to see that the requirements are being met.
- Conduct hiring interviews with the liaisons at the institutions, fill vacant positions to meet contract compliance.
- Professional Development
- Participate in all regularly scheduled trainings as directed.
- Keep current on new developments in the field through networking and taking advantage of other opportunities to enhance professional development.
- Staff Training
- Provide and facilitate in person initial orientation and training for all new staff in the region, following established guidelines.
- Provide continuing individual training for staff, as needed.
- Present and conduct training sessions for staff at regional meetings and state-wide meetings, as directed.
- Coordination/Collaboration
- Meet at least quarterly with the designated liaison at each institution in the region, and otherwise as needed.
- Communicate with the designated liaison by telephone at least monthly, and otherwise as needed.
- Assist subordinate staff with coordination and collaboration on the institutional and local community level.
- Communications
- Maintain regular and complete communications with the Program Administrator/Executive Director and with others as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain physical fitness sufficient to:
- Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Use hands to handle and/or feel objects, tools and controls.
- Stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
- Talk and hear.
- Move quickly/run in case of emergency.
- Vision ability to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Obtain and maintain a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation security clearance.
- Maintain a California driver’s license and auto insurance.
- Work weekends and holidays, if necessary, to meet the needs of the program.
- Work independently under direction but on occasion without direct supervision.
- Travel to assigned region in case of an emergency on a day’s notice.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Word), to the degree necessary to keep records, prepare reports, maintain correspondence, correspond via email, and do internet research for job related projects.
- Perform all tasks in a manner consistent with Friends Outside policies and procedures.
- Participate in mandatory training as required for the position, including institution and off-site training that may occur outside of regularly scheduled workdays.
- Perform all other duties as instructed by the Executive Director.

Salary : $68,640 - $70,000
