Department Description

The Principal of Friendship Academy will provide a clear vision for learning for all students; ensure a safe, secure and orderly learning environment; and cultivate strong relationships with and acts in service to diverse stakeholders, including families and communities. The incumbent of this position is expected to promote high-quality instructional practices, passionately enjoy working with children, and believe that all students can achieve. The Principal is also charged with developing a strong vision for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs designed for students. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader with the essential skills and experiences to have a lasting impact on Prince George'sCounty Public Schools employees and students.

Brief Description

This is an ASASP Unit II Table F Grade 5 Position

Salary Range Grade 5: $115,287 - $174,386

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Implements the schools charterin collaboration with the school's board of directors and the authorizing institution;
  • Develops, articulates and implements a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community;
  • Supports instructional practices required to implement STEM concepts, supports the critical role science instruction occupies in the STEM curriculum;
  • Identifies ways educators can integrate engineering design concepts into their instruction as application of math and science in a project-based, problem solving environment; reinforces the appropriate role of technology in both teaching and learning;
  • Assists in infusing STEM learning across the curriculum; supports and manages a project-based learning environment;
  • Provides instructional leadership for the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment through the purposeful observation and evaluation of teachers;
  • Develops an approach to improve and maintain a positive culture for learning that capitalizes on multiple aspects of cultural diversity to meet the needs of all students and staff;
  • Builds professional learning communities to nurture and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to accelerated student achievement;
  • Acts ethically and according to professional norms to promote each student'sacademic success and well-being;
  • Recognizes, reviews and applies data to encourage school improvement;
  • Plans and implements yearly charter objectives for each of the Academic Excellence Indicators using an effective planning process and site-based decision-making team; provides information system and records enabling progress of performance objectives in relation to the Academic Excellence Indicator to be shown;
  • Seeks and engages in professional activities that foster leadership development, building the capacity of aspiring leaders and fostering innovative thinkers who can help achieve the vision and mission of Prince George'sCounty Public Schools;
  • Documents needs of charter programs to develop accurate budget; ensures compliance of budget guidelines, maintains fiscal control and reports accurate fiscal information;
  • Ensures school facilities are managed effectively and oversees facilities to ensure a clean and safe environment for teaching and learning;
  • Acts ethically and according to professional norms to promote each student'sacademic success and well-being;
  • Demonstrates integrity, fairness, mutual respect, and high ethical standards; working cooperatively and interacts positively with students, staff and community exercising courtesy and discretion; serving as a role model for staff and students;
  • Complies with all local, state and federal laws that apply to charter schools, local charter policy; Board of Education Policies, Administrative Procedures, operating procedures; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

  • Knowledge of national standards in science, engineering, and technology.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, project management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work with individuals with varying degrees of expertise in varied departments/organizations;
  • Ability to create a team that works collaboratively and promotes high expectations for all students;
  • Knowledge and experience implementing curriculum and school operations;
  • Knowledge of current instructional practices;
  • Knowledge of current state and federal rules and regulations;
  • Strong human relations skills, including good verbal and written communications skills;
  • Knowledge of assessment and discipline methodology; and
  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with other staff, parents, vendors and community members in a multi-cultural environment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in supervision and administration, curriculum and instruction, education, or related field required; Doctorate preferred.Previous successful experience as a school-based administrator or other comparable leadership experience.Comparable leadership experience includes but is not limited to: Academic Dean, Assistant Principal or equivalent position; district or central office level supervisor, director or manager. A minimum of three (3) years of successful administrative experience required.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate, Administrator II Certification required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises all school-based staff.
