I. TITLE: Behavior Support Consultant

II. DEFINITION AND BASIC FUNCTION:

This is a professional position, which provides behavioral support consultation to those assigned caseload Individuals being served in a Friendship Community program. This particular position is responsible for the development, monitoring and training of staff in the implementation of behavioral/mental health strategies, which enhance the well being of Individuals served in specific programs. Inherent in this position is the agreement to uphold the Mission Statement of Friendship Community. The BSC will have access rights to Tabula Pro and HCSIS, EIM.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Master’s degree in human services or social science (in accordance with QA&I and regulatory requirements) field plus 1 year’s work experience in DD/ID/MH fields OR Bachelor’s degree in human services or social science field plus two year’s work experience in the DD/ID/MH fields OR Associate’s degree in human services or social science field plus four year’s work experience in the DD/ID/MH fields.

B. Knowledge of various positive approaches, techniques and implementations of least restrictive interventions.

C. Experience with Individuals with Dual Diagnosis’ is preferred.

D. Experience in training staff in both group and 1:1 settings.

E. Certified to teach personal emergency interventions OR willing and able to obtain such certification.

F. Certified Investigator per ODP requirements OR willing and able to obtain such certification.

G. Familiar with word processing, graphing, email and Internet access and use of Outlook for scheduling purposes.

H. Familiar with regulations that apply to specific cases according to program Individual is assigned.

I. As above average proficiency in writing skills is essential for development of Behavior Support Plans, assessments and other necessary documentations.

IV. BASIC FUNCTIONS

A. Demonstrates a respectful, professional, positive attitude that promotes service excellence to Individuals, fellow Team Members, families and / or the general public.

B. Provide consultation to teams supporting people who present challenging behaviors.

C. Direct observation of people who present challenging behaviors and Team interactions in an effort to provide implementation of techniques as a form of consultation.

D. Initiate or respond to requests for team meetings to consult on adaptive approaches to support people who present challenging behaviors.

E. Research current best practices and offer to integrate knowledge and practices into behavior support plans as an Individualized approach as deemed appropriate by the Team.

F. Develop behavior support plans in collaboration with the Individual’s team.

G. Provide training to support teams in the implementation of behavior support plans.

H. Monitor the implementation of behavior support plans and make necessary adjustments in collaboration with the Individual’s team.

I. Ensure that behavior support plans comply with applicable regulations.

J. Consider and attend training events to keep abreast of best practices related to supporting people who present challenging behaviors with guidance from direct supervisor.

K. Attends Human Rights Committee meetings.

L. Collaboration/consultation with other Friendship Community departments in an effort to provide quality care for Friendship Community Individuals.

M. Participate in the orientation and training of new Team Members, as appropriate within consultant role and as requested by Team.

N. Participate in training/inservice opportunities for yearly-required training hours for Team Members.

O. Collaboration with community professionals such as therapists, psychiatrists, medical professionals on behalf of Individuals, Teams and the organization.

P. Additional projects as assigned and approved by direct supervisor.

V. ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to Clinical Care Advisor

VI. AUTHORITY: The Behavioral Support Consultant is authorized to provide consultation to the implementation of strategies designed to enhance the well being of those served by Friendship Community, Individuals, families, day services and teams.

VII. ESSENTIAL & MARGINAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

A. Must have an acceptable driving record and be able to drive with reliable transportation.

B. Familiar with use of computer for word processing, graphing, email, Internet access, and Outlook scheduling.

C. Must be a self-initiator, responsible use of time, organized and multi-task.

D. Participate in other assigned committees as approved by supervisor.

IX. WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a professional Full-Time role including Behavior Support with incorporation of assigned projects. Office space will be maintained at the administrative offices. Duties require time to be spent at various program sites based on need and caseload. Flexibility in schedule may vary from week to week, based on need and may include evening or weekend hours.
