A highly regarded insurance carrier seeks an experienced Executive Trial Attorney to join their legal team in Elmsford or Latham, New York. The position is hybrid : three days in the office; two days remote. The base salary is $138K-$232K with a 15% annual target bonus, long-term incentive and competitive benefits.
Primary Duties :
The Executive Trial Attorney , with the assistance of a talented support staff, will be responsible for insurance defense cases, including those under New York Labor Law, from start to resolution. Additional duties include the following :
Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, letters, memoranda, reports, appeals, articles, etc. using our legal case management software.
Direct and undertakes discovery practice including depositions, expert selection and all other pre-trial preparations.
Regularly update client and claims personnel regarding the status of pending matters.
Communicate with opposing counsel, the courts and others as needed.
Research and brief issues using Lexis and other computer / web-based data sources, law reporters and other law library materials.
Develop litigation strategy for all assigned cases.
Provide analysis of claims in the form of legal opinions, recommendations and digests of recent developments in decisional and statutory law.
Control and direct clerical activity, in accordance with office protocol, necessary to support function of position.
Report to Managing Attorney concerning status of matters and provide other information as requested.
Try cases to conclusion before judges, juries and other triers of fact including ADR.
Travel to depositions, court appearances, claims and client meetings, and other events as necessary.
Engage in other activities as directed by the managing attorney including limited management responsibilities if appropriate.
Requirements :
At least 15 years of legal experience in the jurisdiction.
Ability to travel approximately 20% of employee’s time.
Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school required.
Member in good standing of the New York State Bar.
Previous management experience.
Excellent jury trial experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
Legal case management software experience preferred.
Excellent customer service, writing and oral communication skills.
Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing.
