Job Title : Technician
Job Specialty : OB
Job Duration : 13 weeks
Shift : 1st shift, 12-hour day shifts, 0700-1930, with weekend rotation
Guaranteed Hours : 36 per week
Experience : Previous experience as a Surgical Tech or OB Tech is strongly preferred; direct experience in a labor and delivery unit scrubbing into the OR for surgical cases and attending vaginal deliveries required
License : One of the following is required : State licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, State Nursing Assistant Certification, or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Surgical Technologist Program
Certifications : American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider or an AHA approved equivalent
Must-Have : Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
Job Description :
- Under the direction of a registered nurse, perform routine duties within the obstetric department.
- Assist with organization of the environment and maintenance of equipment.
- Support operative / delivery room procedures and provide care, comfort, and safety for patients.
- Perform clerical support as necessary.
- Assist with patient hygiene, including bathing and general hygiene tasks.
- Support tasks related to patient nutrition and hydration.
- Help maintain mobility by assisting with ambulation, transferring, and positioning of patients.
- Perform additional patient care duties like obtaining vital signs, blood glucose levels, and catheter care.
- Assist with newborn care tasks such as baths, diaper changes, and infant feeding.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of all tasks.
- Utilize AIDET with all internal and external customers to enhance the patient experience.
- Apply standard precautions and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Follow the plan of care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Participate in safety practices and procedure preparations, including sponge counts and equipment setups.
- Collaborate with Nurses and Physicians to promote positive patient outcomes.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment, restock supplies, and ensure quick patient room turnovers.
- Work effectively in a team to support patient care and department efficiency.
