Sonographer Position Summary: This position requires knowledge of imaging techniques for all areas of ultrasound, assisting with providing 24/7 coverage of the Ultrasound Service, and performing sonographic examinations according to department standards and protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Performs sonographic examinations using sound ergonomics to prevent injury.
- Produces high quality images and ensures that all images are appropriately labeled and identified.
- Recognizes normal anatomy and physiology, normal variations and pathology and adjusts imaging processes as needed.
- Analyzes physician orders and patient history to ensure correlation between patient history and exam to be administered.
- Contributes technical and professional knowledge to the interpreting physician.
- Maintains equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs.
- Prepares patients for exam by providing a clear explanation of the procedures and answering questions.
- Provides assistance to radiologists and other medical staff during performance of interventional, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
Requirements:
- Candidate must be proficient with ultrasound equipment and have basic knowledge of patient care equipment.
- Newly hired, experienced sonographers must be registry eligible through the ARDMS.
- Sonographers will be required to be registered in Abdomen (AB), OB/GYN (OB) and Vascular (VT).
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life support for the Healthcare provider (BLS) or an American Heart Association (AHA) approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
