What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Department Technician position at Froedtert South?
- POSITION PURPOSE
- Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Emergency Department Technician provides patient care for all patients throughout the lifespan.
- MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
- High School plus specialized training (6 mons-2 yrs)
- MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 1 to 3 years
- LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire.
- Must be competent to obtain and process EKG’s per Cardiology protocols within 6 months of hire.
- Current State of Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) basic licensure, Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or Medical Assistant (MA).
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs technical skills under the supervision of the Emergency Department physicians and RNs for all patients throughout the lifespan.
- Assists medical and nursing staff with patient data collections, patient care, clerical duties and documents/communicates appropriately.
- Assists with facilitating interdepartmental and inter-hospital patient transfers as well as patient transfers between the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers and the Emergency Department.
