We are seeking an experienced COBOL and .NET Developer with a strong background in COBOL development and migration projects. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience working with legacy COBOL applications and modern .NET technologies to support a critical migration project. This role involves analyzing existing COBOL applications, assisting in migration strategies, and developing solutions in .NET to ensure a seamless transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze, modify, and maintain existing COBOL applications running on mainframe or AS/400 environments.
- Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and stakeholders to define migration strategies and requirements.
- Design and implement migration solutions from COBOL-based applications to .NET frameworks.
- Develop and optimize COBOL programs for performance and maintainability.
- Convert legacy business logic into .NET-based solutions, ensuring data integrity and functionality parity.
- Work with database teams to migrate DB2, VSAM, or other COBOL-related databases to SQL Server or other modern RDBMS.
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging of migrated applications to ensure quality and reliability.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for both legacy and modernized applications.
- Create legacy documentation and migrated applications, ensuring knowledge transfer and maintainability.
- Work in an Agile environment and participate in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
Required Skills:
- 7 years of COBOL development experience in mainframe (IBM Z/OS, AS/400) or Micro Focus environments.
- Strong understanding of COBOL batch and online processing, JCL, CICS, and DB2 or VSAM.
- Experience with .NET technologies (C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core) and familiarity with object-oriented programming.
- Knowledge of migration strategies from legacy systems to modern platforms.
- Experience working with databases such as SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team setting.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with business users and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with middleware tools for migration, such as Micro Focus COBOL, TIBCO, or MuleSoft.
- Knowledge of cloud-based migration solutions (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
- Experience in API development and integration.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, and Docker.
