Lead Photographer

From the Hip Photo, Colorado's most loved photo/video studio, is looking a new Lead Photographer to grow our tight-knit, small team!

This position begins with a three-month, part-time trial period. Assuming the fit is mutually excellent, this is followed by a job offer for a full-time, exclusive, salaried role with benefits.

The full-time role is an EXCLUSIVE position.

Any photography commitments already in place at the time of hiring will be discussed and accommodated; however, our lead photographers are not able to pursue commercial photo work outside of the company.

From the Hip is based out of our cozy and spacious studio in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood. Our projects take place across the metro area and beyond, including occasional national work

Requirements:

A sharable portfolio of sessions you have photographed is a primary requirement. Portfolio items should showcase as many of the following session types as possible: weddings, professional headshots, families, engagements, studio portraiture, product photography, food, fashion, events, and video work.

Due to the nature of our projects/clientele, reliable transportation and availability on evenings and weekends is non-negotiable. In the salaried role, we are conscientious about keeping weekly hours to approximately 40 per week regardless of a given week's schedule.

About You:

You are ridiculously passionate about photography (and maybe video, too) and are likely keen on art and music more generally. Working on a shoot is your main passion. You love being out on location flexing your artistic muscle but also find satisfaction in the post-production editing process.

Even though you’re a pro, you are also eager to continue learning and improving, delving into new areas and subject matter, and have a demonstrated history of furthering your education and technique.

Your personality is as warm and accommodating as your photo/video skills are deep. You can put newborn parents at ease, wrangle a family of 50 for a perfect image, and break the ice during an executive headshot session.

While you don’t need your hand held, you also enjoy the fun of being part of a like-minded team, like learning something new or sharing a drink with your crew.

What You’ve Got to Have:

Two years of successful photography experience; example galleries are our primary initial consideration.

Proficiency with both leading clients through completely posed sessions as well as artfully capturing candid moments.

Your own gear. We love Nikon, (but other brands such as Canon or Sony are welcome too). Off camera flash with something like PocketWizards or a Godox lighting system, two high-quality full frame camera bodies, a selection of relevant lenses, and speedlights.

Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop fluency is a must, along with comfort across ye olde suite of Google products. If you can work in Premiere, Audition, and After Effects, event better!

Familiarity with studio lighting, flash, and mobile lighting concepts and strategies.

Passion and initiative. We are incredibly pumped about what we do. We only surround ourselves with people who feel the same way.

Bonus Competencies:

Graphic design skills; HDR photography experience; familiarity with project management software and email management techniques; thinking kids are cute; a deep and abiding love of The Smiths or TSwift; social media management platforms; Wordpress.
