We are currently looking for an Assistant Superintendent/Inspector to work with a large New York State agency.
This person will work out of a field Office to be set up in Ray Brook, NY.
Candidate will be required to travel to several state properties undergoing construction.
Position Scope
Assistant Superintendent: Work under the direction of an EIC. Review Project Drawings and submittals, Inspect delivered materials, Inspect installation of equipment, assist EIC with coordination of Commissioning requirements coordination of MEP installations with General construction and overall management. Abiding by and ensuring the standards of the facility are met with regard to normal operations such as they are not impacted by construction without approval and due notice.
The Assistant Superintendent will support the agency by assisting with the operations of the construction site, during all phases.
Inspection assistance is needed for several ongoing and upcoming projects in Clinton Correctional Facility and surrounding area.
Dannemora and Ray Brook Field Offices:
Clinton Correctional Facility
Upgrade plumbing and fixtures and rehabilitate cell block
Repair steam tunnel
Replace roof and rehabilitate stone exterior Chapel
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee all aspects of the construction project from planning to implementation
- Report on existing and discovered conditions to further project design and construction.
- Coordinate and schedule deliveries, visits, inspections, shutdowns and access to parties related to construction projects with the Facility.
- Provide updates and review project schedules for accuracy and completeness.
- Daily Activity Reports & Weekly Schedule Reports outlining construction progress and schedule failures.
- Conduct brief weekly internal meetings for schedule review.
- Review and documentation of discovered conditions and resulting ticket work.
- Verification of approved materials.
- Review of Payment Requisitions against work progress.
- Allocate resources for assigned projects
- Schedule review - two week look ahead
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Maintain quality control
- MEP Inspection
- Supervise onsite personnel and subcontractors
- Interface with project inspectors, contractors, architects, engineers, city and county officials, and client
- Maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to original plans and specifications
- Ensure Safety Standards are enforced
Required Qualifications
Candidate requires 4 years of experience in construction involving multiple phases of large-scale building/rehabilitation projects.
A minimum of 2 years' experience shall be as an Assistant Superintendent or Inspector on large-scale, multi-contract building projects.
This individual must be able to develop/communicate a project work plan, monitor manpower and performance against that work plan, and be able to perform a detailed comparison of the design drawings against each other to ensure coordination between each of the various project trades.
Knowledge and experience with the Uniform Budling Code and Energy Conservation Code is required.
Experience with MEP projects
Proficient level of knowledge relative to all aspects of construction supervision.
OSHA 30 Certification Required
Experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision
Must be able to read blueprints, apply written specifications to the job and communicate effectively.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; both verbally and in writing
Understanding of all facets of the construction process
Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Adobe, Word, Power Point)
Experience with Bluebeam
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience working on public contracts and public agencies
Physical Demands:
Requires exposure to weather and temperature extremes, loud noises, heights (climbing ladders, scaffolding, etc.) and other work-safety hazards (chemicals, fumes, etc.) of a construction site. May require time-pressured decision-making.
