Telecommunications Technician
Location: Greater Houston Area | Job Type: Full-Time | Experience: 5-8 Years
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Telecommunications Technician with 5-8 years of experience in the distribution power or telecommunication construction industry to join our team. This role involves performing One Touch Make Ready (OTMR) transfer work on electric utility infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience working in field environments. This position reports to a Telecommunications Foreman.
Responsibilities:
- Advocate for safety excellence and ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Transfer and configure telecommunications attachments, including fiber optics, coax, and copper.
- Identify hazards, develop risk mitigation plans, and participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) discussions.
- Exhibit craftsmanship and perform quality work built to specifications.
- Maintain accurate documentation, lead by example, and contribute to team development.
Requirements:
The role involves heavy lifting, working at heights, and exposure to inclement weather. Must be able to mitigate safety hazards while working near power lines, heavy equipment, and energized electrical infrastructure. Work is subject to callouts, standby, storm duty, storm travel, and overtime.
Qualifications:
Preferred:
- 8 years of experience performing OTMR transfers on utility infrastructure.
- Ability to climb wooden poles in areas not accessible by machinery.
Minimum:
- 5-8 years of experience in telecommunications or power construction.
- Strong expertise in telecommunication attachment construction and maintenance.
- Experience working on and near utility infrastructure.
- Proven experience operating in an aerial device (bucket truck).
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety protocols, and compliance standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of: OSHA regulations, telecommunications work practices, and utility infrastructure near energized electrical equipment.
Skills in: GIS, mobile applications, MS Office, problem-solving, organization, reading schematics, blueprints, and work sketches.
Ability to: Follow written and verbal instructions, lift heavy equipment, work at heights for extended periods, and deliver high-quality work for customers.
