Dining Room Manager
Full-Time Salaried / Wed thru Sunday / 11:00am-8:00pm
$75,000 - $79,040 Annually
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Dining Services, the Dining Room Manager, is responsible for management of dining room service in the manner most pleasing to residents and their guests. Assure a high standard of appearance, hospitality and service in personnel and cleanliness of dining room. Supervises and trains dining room staff. Manage within budgetary restraints. Assists in all aspects of the Dining Services Program. Sets goals, objectives and priorities to establish department direction and purpose. Relies on experience, judgment and departmental policy to plan and accomplish goals. Provides an overall excellent dining experience to all levels of care by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
- Provides quality Customer Service efficiently to residents, families, co-workers and vendors in a manner to ensure satisfaction.
- May hire, supervise and develop Dining Room staff who will achieve established department goals and objectives.
- Identifies department staff development and training needs. Ensures effectiveness of ongoing training program.
- Assists residents and guests with special needs.
- Confers with Dietary Management and food preparation team including other personnel to plan menus and related special events/celebrations and banquet operations.
- Prepares work schedules. Monitors and approves vacation requests and work schedules.
- Inspects dining room employees to ensure that they are in proper and clean uniforms at all times.
- Hires, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates dining room staff.
- Provides appropriate reports concerning employee hours, schedules, pay rates, job changes, etc.
- Receives and resolves complaints concerning food, beverages and service.
- Serves as liaison between the dining room and kitchen staff.
- Assures that all side-work is accomplished and that all cleaning of equipment and storage areas is completed according to schedule.
- Directs pre-meal meetings with dining room personnel; relays information and policy changes and briefs personnel.
- Assures the correct appearance, cleanliness and safety of dining room areas, equipment and fixtures; checks the maintenance of all equipment in the dining room and reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns.
- Makes suggestions about improvements in dining room service procedures and layout.
- Plans operating budget for dining service responsibilities.
- Performs other appropriate assignments and projects as required by the Director of Dining Services.
- Inventory order and maintain all operating supplies in the dining room including table flowers and linens.
- Inspects food and food preparation to maintain quality standards and sanitation regulations. Reports any concerns to the Executive Chef and/or Director of Dietary Services.
- Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints.
- Reviews financial transactions and monitors budget to ensure efficient operation, and to ensure expenditures stay within budget limitations.
- May be required to perform the duties of service personnel.

- Follows highest standards of cleanliness. Follows all federal, state and corporate policies, health codes and guidelines in preparation and handling of foodstuffs.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Wears safety equipment as required for the job. Reports any safety hazards and/or accidents to supervisor.
- Ensures & follows department safety standards, practice correct body mechanic techniques and participate in campus-wide safety programs.
- Attends all mandatory in-service meetings. Complies with all department and facilities policies and procedures.
- Understand facility’s fire and disaster plans; follow established procedures during drills and actual emergencies.
- Directly and/or indirectly supervises servers and food service aides. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring and training new employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS

- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a 2-year College or technical school; or 3-5 years related experience or training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and policy/procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondents.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- ServSafe or equivalent certification required.
