Position/Job Summary:
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting critical utilities and support systems for all Business Units. In this position, the Facilities Engineer will coordinate / oversee the repair and upkeep of critical utilities, support equipment, and building systems. The incumbent is responsible for minimizing production downtime due to critical utilities, support systems and equipment malfunction / failure in accordance with approved SOPs and maintains equipment to its validated state.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Provide building infrastructure and critical utility support on systems issues such as HVAC, boilers, chillers, compressed air/gasses, freezers/cold rooms, fire protection, fire alarm, building automation, laboratory equipment/laboratory gases, cryo-gases, etc.
- Establish and/or revise critical utilities and support systems SOPs.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules on critical utilities and support systems.
- Ensure optimal and cost-effective performance and reliability for facilities and utility systems.
- Forward thinking the ability to work with system & technical metrics, identify variances & deficiencies while improving maintenance program and performance.
- Ensure systems are maintained / operating efficiently and align with pertinent regulations.
- Responsible for utilities operation and maintenance activities. SME of mechanical systems and utilities including interstitial and shell spaces.
- Independent, self-motivated, organized, able to multi-task in project environments, and skilled in communication, facilitation, and collaboration.
- Consistently maintains a professional and positive work environment - must be a Team player.
- Direct experience with regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, EPA, FDA) including and applying cGMPs.
- Ensures all documentation produced is in compliance with cGMP standards and SOPs.
- Follows and abides by all EH&S policies, practices, and procedures in association with department specific responsibilities.
- Contribute to investigations as required and implement corrective actions and compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Support capital projects as needed – not a primary responsibility.
- This position is considered essential by the company.
Education, Experience & Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or equivalence in experience.
- At least 3-5 years minimum of maintenance or engineering experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company with direct experience in a GMP facility.
- Experience working with critical utilities, including, but not limited to HVAC, chillers, boilers, air compressors, compendial water, pumps, miscellaneous lab equipment, etc.
- Understanding electrical single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, controls schematics and equipment specifications is a must.
- Ability to analyze problems, develop and propose engineering solutions in a scientific manner.
- Experience with Commissioning of facilities & utility systems.
- Instrumentation and Controls experience is a plus
- Prior experience in a pharmaceutical facility preferred.
- Proficient with computers.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals and control diagrams.
- Able to work with others and as part of a team.
- Understand verbal and written instructions.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license
- Calibration experience is a plus
