FBH is looking for energetic and self-motivated psychologists to join our team of Court Evaluators. Court Evaluators play a unique and exciting role in the inpatient treatment process of determining the need for involuntary commitment. Duties include conducting a review of records, brief clinical interviews, collaboration with hospital treatment staff, and expert witness testimony regarding the need for continued inpatient treatment. The Staff Psychologist provides psychological testing services, supervision of interns/practicum students and/or clinicians providing direct individual, family, group treatment services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES includes but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct diagnostic interviews and records reviews for the purpose of diagnosis and assessment in the context of outpatient psychological assessment.

  • Administer, score, and interpret assessment measures

  • Prepare written reports summarizing the patient history, assessment process and results, diagnosis(es), and treatment recommendations.

  • Provide assessment feedback regarding results, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations to client, treatment providers and/or family and medication prescribers.

  • Perform Civil Commitment evaluations via records review, consultations, and in-person interviews for adult and adolescent involuntary patients at various inpatient facilities.

  • Contact witnesses for collateral information.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary treatment teams regarding treatment and discharge planning in the context of the civil commitment process. 

  • Prepare court documents/petitions for purposes of involuntary treatment.

  • Provide expert witness testimony in prospective civil commitment court cases.

Court Evaluation Process:

  • Evaluates patients to establish whether there is a presence of mental disorder and a danger to self, others, property or grave disability to adequately care for health and safety needs.

  • Reviews available past and current records.

  • Interviews patient and reviews the medications prescribed and assesses the patient’s level of cooperation in taking the medications.

  • Reviews any diagnostic procedures or lab work performed and discusses with the physician.

  • Collaborates with physicians, social work and nursing staff who have been caring for the patient and are familiar with the treatment team’s recommendation.

  • Collaborates with the Spokane County Deputy Prosecutors regarding court strategies and testimony.

  • Reviews decisions to dismiss or convert cases to Less Restrictive Orders prior to the hearing.

  • Completes required legal forms and written documentation of investigation activities.

Presents testimony on:

  • All relevant chart entries in past and current medical records and relevant aspects of the patient’s history.

  • The patient’s course of treatment during the initial detention period that supports the recommendation for further treatment.

  • Consideration that was given to less restrictive options and rationale for the necessity of more restrictive treatment.

  • Consideration of voluntary hospitalization and rationale for the necessity for continued involuntary status.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

REQUIRED:

  • Doctorate Degree in Psychology or related field.

  • Clinical Licensure (or license eligible in Washington State within 6 months of employment).

  • The ability to juggle multiple time demands and strong writing skills.

  • The ability to utilize electronic medical record management systems.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience in court evaluation or the legal/court system preferred but not required-we are willing to train the right candidate.

  • Knowledge of Washington Administrative Codes and statutes pertaining to involuntary treatment, client rights preferred but not required.

PAY RANGE (Salary/Exempt): $118,389.72 - $144,232.64*

*All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus, the starting pay for this position is $118,389.72 annually.
