This is a full time office based position located at our headquarters in Harlingen, TX
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- A Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the process of referrals from primary care physicians to specialists, diagnostic facilities, and other healthcare providers. The primary role is to ensure that patients receive timely and appropriate medical care.
- Receiving and reviewing referral requests from primary care physicians, assessing their urgency and appropriateness.
- Communicating with patients to schedule appointments with specialists and diagnostic facilities.
- Coordinating the transfer of medical records and other pertinent information between healthcare providers.
- Collaborating with insurance providers to verify coverage and obtain authorization for medical procedures.
- Providing administrative support to healthcare providers and patients, including managing phone and email correspondence, and maintaining accurate records.
- Monitoring the referral process to ensure timely and appropriate care is provided.
- Reconciles invoices alongside finance. Respond to tasks and requests on the EMR system.
- Providing guidance and support to patients to help them navigate the healthcare system.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives to optimize the referral process
- Staying current with changes in healthcare policies and regulations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of health care experience (including Medical Assistant, CNA, health care administration, customer service, admissions, referrals etc.)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Electronic medical records experience
- Experience facilitating and establishing referral responsibilities to include regular cadence with clinics and communicating (phone calls, emails, fax) with related parties to support a clinical team with referrals
- Knowledge of medical terminology (CPT Codes, ICD 10 Codes), procedures and healthcare regulations and policies
- Experience working with insurance carriers and performing prior insurance authorizations
