Frontier Medicines is seeking an experienced and strategic Director, Research Informatics to lead a team supporting data-intensive research activities across our Boston and South San Francisco sites. This is a key leadership role responsible for evolving and maintaining our cloud-based and on-prem infrastructure, scientific data pipelines, and custom software tools including operationalization of internally developed AI driven solutions. You'll partner cross-functionally with scientists, data scientists, and external vendors to translate research needs into informatics solutions that accelerate drug discovery.
As a fully integrated biotech company with lab sites in Boston and South San Francisco spanning all disciplines including chemoproteomics and AI, you will be at the center of all workflows and data streams, interacting with every department influence the strategy and shape the future of Frontier's data.
Frontier's research engine produces massive and complex datasets requiring scalable, innovative informatics solutions. You'll join a passionate and collaborative team driving data infrastructure, tools, and insights that empower discovery scientists to make decisions quickly and effectively. You'll lead a growing team advancing how we collect, manage, analyze, and visualize our scientific data.
What we are looking for:
- Lead the Research Informatics team across Boston and SSF, overseeing software engineering and informatics professionals.
- Define and implement the strategy for Frontier's research data infrastructure, including cloud/on-prem computing, data capture and transformation, visualization, and software tools.
- Collaborate with research stakeholders to gather informatics requirements, translate them into technical plans, and deliver impactful solutions across biochemistry, cell biology, mass spectrometry, chemoproteomics, and more.
- Oversee implementation, optimization, and support of scientific software (e.g., ELN, LIMS, Dotmatics, custom apps).
- Drive internal software and data engineering efforts, including development of APIs, web-based apps, and automation of research workflows.
- Ensure robust data governance and compliance with internal standards and best practices.
- Manage external partnerships and vendors supporting outsourced software or data projects.
- Develop and maintain project plans, track milestones and deliverables, and provide regular updates to leadership and collaborators.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop talent while fostering a collaborative, innovative team culture.
Qualifications
- BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Research Informatics, Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics, or a related field.
- 10 years' experience in scientific informatics or data engineering within biotech or pharmaceutical R&D.
- Experience deploying and managing on-prem/cloud hybrid informatics solutions in a (AWS preferred).
- Strong understanding of data model design, scientific data integration, and data visualization best practices.
- Familiarity with database systems and advanced computing systems (e.g. Oracle, NVIDIA DGX and etc.)
- Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java), web technologies (HTML, JSON, XML), and SQL.
- Hands-on experience with scientific data types (e.g., biochemical assays, proteomics, in vivo studies, imaging).
- Familiarity with ELNs, LIMS, and common informatics platforms (e.g., Dotmatics) is a strong plus.
- Track record of managing external partners or professional service providers on software or informatics projects.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, startup environment.

At Frontier, we strive to build a diverse and equitable workplace. The salary range for this role is $175,000 - $250,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including candidates' qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
