Frontier Railroad Services, LLC is a growing railroad construction company based in New Stanton, PA performing new track construction, track rehabilitation, and maintenance of way services in the Eastern United States.
Job Description
The Senior Project Engineer draws from their training and experience to successfully manage various size railroad projects to support company business growth and profitability goals. This is a hybrid position requiring 50% travel in the field and 50% in office.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide project administrative management of awarded contracts.
- Observe workflow, anticipate potential schedule changes, and coordinate with superintendents on delivery of materials and staying on schedule.
- Review change order drawings and specifications; develop, track and negotiate proposals and change orders.
- Assist in preparation of bids, including assisting with take-offs, requests for pricing, project set up, quality control, design reviews and other related tasks.
- Establish project objectives, procedures, schedules, and performance requirements.
- Provide supervision of field crew members/foreman or superintendents, as required.
- Maintain documentation of quantities and value of work estimated/completed to support forecasting for future project performance.
- Provide ongoing support to Construction/Operations for efficient and profitable execution of work including scheduling, procurement and change order/supplemental work processes.
- Monitor/Manage subcontractor work.
- Partner with Contract Administrator to review and process financial aspects of contracts including billing, payments, etc.
- Manage FRA and railroad specific safety compliance.
- Ensure safety and environmental regulation compliance.
- Assure all company safety policies and procedures are followed to prevent all unsafe actions, processes and behaviors observed.
- Other duties assigned as needed.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field of study such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Project Management.
- Understanding of MOW ops, track & structure maintenance, FRA regs preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years recent related project management experience in a heavy civil construction or railroad environment, including a thorough knowledge of construction industry practices, methods, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities.
- Solid knowledge of surveying, equipment applications, and overall engineering is essential.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
- Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications, and to comprehend and recognize safety standards and issues.
- Knowledge of general contract and subcontract documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Project and Word programs.
- Strong leadership and excellent communication skills.
Additional Requirements:
- Work in conjunction with office staff and company ownership to prepare accurate and timely proposals.
- Have a “whatever it takes” attitude and team-oriented outlook. 50% travel required, on site at projects as necessary.
